Edit: I'm up to Las Vegas and my impressions so far is that it isn't as good as Most Wanted but it is among the best since Most Wanted. Most Wanted has more replay value and is overall more fun. The appeal of The Run is the fact it is a canonball run. It sucks that they start you off in relatively crappy cars (not as crappy as most games start you with though) but, even it is completely unecessary, they always put you on a learning curve.
