Perhaps a proper sequel to MechCommander? That is a wicked fun game.
It does however, need a salvage system. That is one of the cornerstones of the Battletech world. These mechs were so expensive that taking whatever you could to use for your own was a priority.
In Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, I remember the huge satisfaction of pummeling a 75 ton mech right in the cockpit with my 25 ton commando with my medium lasers knowing I'd get to take that puppy home.
Ah, those were the days...
