Don't do it to "please us", do it so you can experience something diff. that you MAY like, after all: It's YOUR "Pc experience" & all that...
Folks here've turned me onto a few wares, & once I tried them (or, tried them again, as in the case of the latter example I use)? I liked them, a LOT...
E.G.-> VLC as my media player (love the fact it comes w/ codecs BUILT-IN) & RAXCO PerfectDisk (excellent defragger - better on single-pass manual defrags than my former fav, Diskeeper).

It has popup blocking "built-in", & scripting control is built in as well (Tools menu, Quick Preferences, or FULL preferences)...
I go a bit above that w/ something called a .pac file (works w/ proxy entries area in browsers to block ads & popups as a sort of pre-processing filter) & also HOSTS blocking for adbanners, for those type of things as well (big into 'layering defenses' here)...
