most mods are made mods after being members for an extended period of time, this makes sence, it also makes sence to start them off in a limmited roll such as mod of 1 section with limmited mod powers.
a mod is just a member whos show themselves in most cases to be a reliable member, sometimes not even a "problem free" member, i know i made some people mods that had their troubles(on here they are called infractions) because they showed them where capable of dealing with situations without making things worse most of the time.
now as in the case of a couple forums i use to frequint some of the mods where friends of the admin/owner, and in almost every case that was a bad thing, beacuse those mods could get away with stuff that was WAY out of line, but those are situations where the forums normaly die because the admin isnt willing to take mod powers from his buddys.
in this case i would say most of the mods are good and pretty transpairnt, hell Zek is a great guy and pretty good mod, little quick with the mod stick at times but at least hes fair about it most of the time.
there have been complaints against a mod or a few mods for being heavy handed or out of line, or hypocrites, this needs delt with, not saying the mod/mods involved need to be demoted, but they need to be talked to for sure, because you shouldnt be a mod if you cant interact well with people and follow your own rules, you shouldnt be a mod if you cant take criticism, because if people like that are mods it drives others away, i personaly know that i have had a mod come at me for something then do exectly what he told me not to post after post, i have been thretened for being critical of a certen mod's acctions in responce to a topic to the point of said mod thretening me.
again im not saying that mod shouldnt be a mod, im saying that maby some of the mods need to be talked to, or need to take a break for a little while, and learn to take criticism.
if you want to see a nasty forums try the megatokyo main forums, u need durac(depleted uranium armmor) to deal with the members attacks not to mention the mods who will nazi mod the shit out of you if they dont agree with you or dont like you.
its not that bad here, but i dont want to see it get that bad, i dont want to see more people driven away because some mods are drunk on their power.
its best to nip things in the bud b4 it gets to that point.
and Zek is a great guy dispite the smell...........
p.s. maby if zek would use soap when he showered insted of onion peels it would help :P
