If you pan with it, then the ghosting/smearing effect is pretty bad, like on any LCD monitor. However, when playing an FPS, there's a lot of forward movement. As your effectively "zooming in", the sideways movement is a lot slower and thus makes it less noticeable. Of course, when spinning round it's a different story. However, since this monitor's response time is quite quick, it's simply not as obvious. Compare it to one of my old CRTs though and the difference becomes very apparent indeed. Just move the mouse pointer side to side fairly quickly and you can see how it becomes quite blurred on an LCD, but not so on a CRT (just a lot of judder, because the Windows pointer animation isn't smooth).
I don't think you'll go wrong with an Asus panel. I certainly don't see many complaints about them in the forums.
