Then came out in '98 NFS III - Hot Pursuit which had the first fully 3D graphics engine that blew any car games at that time. Driving through rain in that game still remains on of the best experience ever. Then 1 year later and updated NFS High Stakes came out, and until today is considered THE BEST EVER NFS ever produced. Also the last that featured a 3D inside view of the car for best simm experience.

The first release of Need For Speed was in 1994 on the 3DO console.

"The original Need for Speed was released for 3DO in 1994 with versions released for the PC (DOS) (1995), PlayStation and Saturn (1996) following shortly afterwards."

My brother had borrowed his friend's 3D0 shortly after the game came out and we sat around for countless hours playing Need For Speed. Every new release of the franchise takes me back to those days with fond memories.
