Power on and right off is either ram, cpu, bent pins or motherboard failure. Try powering the board on with nothing in it then re inset the cpu and ram if it still turns off immediately the toss it.
There are a few places out there that will send you a tested working reflowed board at a discount if you send your busted one in, still not worth the money IMO.

yeah i tried all kinds of combinations and no luck. its an odd problem, because i did several dv3,4,6 that had gpu problems but those at least turned on and flashed the caps and numlock. so i knew right away what the issue is but this one is a first. at least i got a good hard drive, ram, and a screen that will go on ebay =)
