Better to be mentioned rather than have the OP end up going through pointless RMAs while AMD trys to resolve the problem.

The Sapphire 7870s did indeed have an issue which is now resolved which was a hardware issue.
This issue is with certain DX9 games is across the spectrum of the Southern Island GPUs with the state of the current drivers.

If I was 'bashing' I would have said, AMD have bad performance, get much hotter, overheat and are known to fail.
Graphics are far superior with nVidia etc etc without any evidence.

Ever since I have been on these forums I have owned ATi/AMD cards and have been completely happy with the performance until now.
I personally am sticking it out with my card until the start of next year as I still hope the issue gets resolved.

Then I will have a go at nVidia again where my last experience was less than desirable but that was down to a bad batch of 8800GTs.
I do believe AMD had very high sales this year, at least going by the number of people with AMD cards in their system specifications on various forums. As such, the proportionally higher people with issues, compared to previous years, possibly makes it look like there's a bigger problem than what really exists.
