AMD offers better value for crunchers (BOINC) right now. I have found as well that games run pretty smooth with my 7970's as it did with my 580's.
Nvidia GPU's can not even come close to the crunching power of AMD GPU's

Granted not all are into crunching, but some of us are

Personally I do not care about game bundles offered with either vendor...
