hi,

I am currently in the process of upgrading my system. ive been debating wether to get a ps4 but was put off by the cost of games ie. £55 per game which i cant justify until prices come down and when they release gta V on it i may be tempted any way ive just ordered a Asus GeForce GTX 670 DirectCU II OC Gamer. £200. im upgrading to a i5 3570k or the new haswell nxt mnth and new mobo mnth after. the thing is i was also looking at the msi 760 gaming edition card. do you think ive made the right choice between the 2 cards. and will the specs be on par or better than a ps4? any comments and opinions would be appreciated thx.

From what I'm aware the core on the 670 is better, while the 760 has better memory (dont quote me, I could be wrong remembering this stuff), so I'd be happier owning a 670 as opposed to a 760.

i had been looking for about a month now on other forums all have mixed opinions but the majority do say the 670. ive never used nvidia b4 so will be good to see if they are any good. with the ps4 nxt gen titles using amd gpu do u think most new gen games will be amd optimizied?

Now that you have bought it I think there is very little to say other than "enjoy your card!". Specs is definitely better than PS4, but on the other hand PS4 will most definitely look better than anything on offer nowadays, simply because optimisation will give it a very big edge against unoptimised ones (eg. Games on PS3 looks a lot better than games on PC for a very long time, long after PC hardware outstripped the PS3 performance). There is a small matter of developers optimise for consoles too (one set of hardware to optimise as opposed to many different configs). As for games, I think you will just need to be slightly more patient. Games a year or two old regularly cost about £10 or under, if you are willing to wait for a little while (especially single player ones) gaming is not that expensive.

i do agree with you. the reason im sticking with the pc also is that there are still so many good games i havnt played as of yet at a fraction of the cost of a ps3 game,ps4 game so ur right ive ordered it looking forward to putting it into my system. the card will be bottlenecked by my a8 3870k but i should still see a fps increase until i get a new 15 n mobo.

Think for example, that ACIII looked better on consoles, purely because it ran like shite on anything else that costed four times as much as the console, which was all because of terrible porting.
When ported correctly, everything is bound to look WAAAAY better on PC.

Not really, any decent dual core or quad core will run that card.

For a very long time, yes. In order to bring back graphics parity one needed to spend a lot of money on the graphics card (and frequently on the CPU upgrades too), only to play console ports. The trend only reversed itself a few years ago, and PS3 was way past its 3rd or 4th birthday by then. You must remember that consoles are a lot easier to program for (having only one set of hardware), and optimising for PC is an art on its own. Might be easier now that all consoles are using "PC parts", but we will see.

There hasn't been a game I can say looked any good on ps3 when it came out till this day that looked good don't most games on consoles play at lower res to keep the game play smoother?

Yeah comps are not cheap but I wouldnt take a console over a pc unless you can afford a decent pc

will there be more powerful processors for the pc? the way it looks to me is that more and more processors are having higher integrated graphics embedded on the cpu, which could be holding back more raw cpu power, also as we no tablets are replacing laptops slowly but surely which means more integrated cpu's for that market. the pc gaming market may be a thing of the past in years to come but who knows enjoy it why we have it.

I know it may be a bit late, but if you do feel underwhelmed with the card overclockers.co.uk are slashing prices on AMD 79** series cards

a 7970 can be had from £250, which is the price of a 7950

also aria.co.uk are dropping quite a few prices on SSDs and cpu's

Yes I think you made a good choice mate. Either card is decent.

I also think nothing beats a pc when it comes to graphics. I think back to 2007 when Crisis came out on pc, it blew everything out of the water when a console was still using dx9. That was 6 years ago now.

Yes I agree its more expensive to own a good pc but thats what we do here to live on the bleeding edge on technology! :)

overclockers uk is where i bought it for £200. apparently it's not far off a 7970 which i looked at but couldnt justify the extra £50 for little performance increase in fps. also nvidia hold there price better in the second hand market like intel, corsair etc on ebay etc. i can always sell and upgrade when the times right.

GTX670 is better then the 760, Enjoy it, I also have a 670, ( I have also had a 7970, 7950,580,570,560ti,590 and about every other card known to man, the 670 is the sweet spot and best for the money, plus mine overclocks like a BIATCH, with mine overclocked it is better then the 7970 plus the Asus one is a good choice for the price. ENJOY

Now that you have bought it I think there is very little to say other than "enjoy your card!". That is absolute crap.

There are plenty of Youtube review videos with identical games on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 running side by side and most if not all have always referred to the textures being better on the PC.

buckstar. Your CPU is decent. I'd concentrate on the GPU only 7850 for £130. That move would be enough to hold you off a couple of years alone without any other upgrades.

What do you mean "better" core. They are both GK104. the 760 just has one less SMX unit then the 670.

If you mean the 670 just has more Cuda cores then yes.

I think you're the one that needs the research, there is no way in hell a 7950 is better then a Asus GTX670

Sorry, but 7950s can beat 670s. And run right there with 680s.

Not sure this is correct. Every review I've seen places the ATI 7950 is about 10% slower than the GTX 670.

The GTX 680 seems be on a different level.

Edit:
HardOCP

We experienced GTX 670 performance up to 30% faster than the Radeon HD 7950, for the same price.
compared the GTX 670 to the Radeon HD 7970 we found the lower priced (by $50) GTX 670 to perform on par with, or better than, the Radeon HD 7970!
The $50 less expensive GTX 670 was delivering the same gameplay experience, and sometimes a better experience, compared to the more expensive Radeon HD 7970!!
Even with the Radeon HD 7950 overclocked the GeForce GTX 670 overclocked was able to perform faster.!
When compare the price compatible GeForce GTX 670 to the Radeon HD 7950, the value delta is tremendous; it is simply an embarrassing scenario for the Radeon HD 7950.
The GeForce GTX 670 clearly offers much better gaming performance at the same price. At the current prices the Radeon HD 7950 cannot compete in the market.
