Hmm. Well it's hard to say because the new chips will obviously be better, but will they provide enough of a boost to notice considerable performance differences with newer software titles and 3d applications.
I am pretty confident that the only real boost or upgrade we're going to see, will be with the Nehalem architecture chips coming after the Penryns (Q9450 chips etc.).
When do the new motherboards come out? It might be best to get one of those, but a current chip. Then upgrade the chip later.
