PC for my brother.

My brother wanted to build a budget gaming PC. I'm trying to stay under 600 shipped.
Here's my list: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/M...spx?ID=9133692

I wanted to know what you guys think. He plays games like Cossacks II, and older RTS, and I added the 9600 in case he gets into something a little heavier.

He wants XP because some of his games won't run on my Vista machine. No changing that. =P

Didn't notice the PSU thing. Thanks. I feel retarded. XD

You sure it's better? I own an ACF7P and it's totally awesome. I'm idling in the 30s.

I'm happy with the pins. I don't see why anyone has problems with them...

I found the retention bracket to be more annoying. Thanks for the help! I'll grab the xigmatek. I'm sure he'll love a silent cooler.

I run it with no fan using my stock settings because it loads with 36c with no fan but under 3.2ghz-3.8ghz I have a silverstone fan on it that keeps it at about 39c after 12 hours of prime.

I changed the card to a 3870. I don't want him to have problems with an unstable card. He'd be better off with a nice warranty anyways. XD

Antec Earthwatts are some of the best PSU's on the market and 430w is enough for single card setup.

Thanks. We ended up dropping a lot of stuff due to budget reasons (He got mad about individual things costing as much as they did. Don't blame him)

Now it's an e2180 + 3870 512mb. He should be extremely happy if he's going to be playing stronghold 2. For him, this is extremely future proofed.

Wouldn't waste the money on the cooler to be honest being that board wont overclock worth a jack crap.

Other than that I would say it looks good, personally I might get a 4670 instead being its almost on par at most resolutions and draws less power, runs a lot cooler. But its about the same price so that's kinda up to you.

The xigmatek is just to reduce noise.
I'm worried about support for the 4670. I heard the drivers are bad at the moment and I'm not sure what monitor my brother is getting.

Fair enough on the noise side...

The 4670 isn't supported directly right now, it will be very soon as its the entry level gaming card, there will be tons of large box companies that will be shipping systems with it. Gateway, Dell etc...

Monitor size could make the difference though, the 3870 starts to walk it 1680x1050+

I was trying to push that resolution. He likes the way 1280x1024 looks, but I told him about increasing DPI and it may have sparked interest.

EDIT: He's going to buy this in early december, he says. If the 3870 still is sold on newegg, he'll grab it. If not, I'll find something else. (Maybe a 4850 or that 4830 I'm hearing about?)

Nothing against you. I honestly would, but he's against using paypal and he wants something out of the warehouse. I could try asking him and I'll see what he says.

Does diamond do warranties? This PC has to last, mostly unchanged, for a few years.

How long does the warranty last?

Since they're very close in price, he'll probably go for the seller that he knows more about. Please don't get your hopes up real high. I had to argue with him to get any 3870. He thought the 4670 was pushing it cost-wise.
