Revenue is basically income from sales of products and what not. A "net" value is profit compared to losses over a time period. For instance, if you were to make $100 by selling a graphics card or something, you would call that revenue. If you went out and bought a new card for $150, you would have a net loss of $50. Similarly, if you still made your $100 and bought a $75 card instead, you would have a net profit of $25.

AMD made $1,776 million in revenue but they spent $1,843. The result is a net loss of $67 million. They go into details of various accounts so it is not quite that simple but, you should be able to get the jist of it from that.

The technology industry is doing rather well compared to the rest.

Im a bit confused by that revenue is up but they recorded a net loss for the same period. I would expect improvement with the gpu's what amd needs is some decent cpu's then it will be interesting.

GPUs and chipsets are well under a quarter of their earnings. So long as their CPU sales is trash, their bottomline will be trash.

Don't be fooled, the company posts a loss to avoid taxation for the most part, if you add the salarys of the company bigwigs and all the write offs you end up with profit. We do the same here, all of our profit is actually spent in building assets and other items.

The cost of investing in the future.

Yes, AMD stock is still cheap. Very cheap, and it's going up. According to this report AMD is up from last quater by a significant margin. This is good for AMD and it's shareholders.

this is good news, at least they are not losing hundreds of millions like before

AMD has finally reached operating profitability and analysts are very happy with these results as they are much better than expected, especially considering that the economy is going downhill.

yes they have and the losses are nominal compared to what they were earlier. This is extremely good news.

I wouldn't be investing in AMD stock right now--especially with Nehalem just over a month away. AMD is liable to tank again.

The time to invest in AMD is right before Denab is launched. That's assuming Denab is at least on par with Nehalem. Just because of (lack of) name recognition, AMD has to more than beat Nehalem in order for it to show in stock value.

Well if they improve their Phenom architecture than its highly possible. The i7 benches I saw were pretty weak.. If they step up their game, AMD could be the enthusiasts choice again here soon.
