AMD Appoints Former HP Exec Alberto Bozzo to Head EMEA Region

AMD today announced the appointment of Alberto Bozzo as corporate vice president and general manager of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Reporting to Emilio Ghilardi, AMD chief sales officer, Bozzo will have responsibility for all sales and marketing operations within EMEA. Bozzo starts his new role in January 2009. Bozzo, 44, brings more than 20 years of experience with HP, where he was most recently the vice president of HP’s multi-billion dollar go-to-market consumer business unit in EMEA.

“We are pleased to add another seasoned professional to AMD who brings a strong combination of sales, marketing and organizational management experience,” said Emilio Ghilardi, AMD senior vice president and chief sales officer. “Alberto’s successful consumer and commercial computing record makes him the right person to help AMD execute on its aggressive plans in the strategic EMEA region.”

Previously, Bozzo was the EMEA vice president and general manager of HP's Commercial Products division within the Personal Systems Group. While at HP, Bozzo also held the positions of vice president of Group Marketing for the Personal Systems Group in EMEA and of vice president of Human Resources and Organization Effectiveness for the Personal Systems Group in EMEA.

Bozzo succeeds Emilio Ghilardi, who was recently named AMD Chief Sales Officer.

AMD stock jumped up 15% today, perhaps this is the reason why?

I think it's because GPUs are selling like hot cakes (for both NVIDIA and AMD).

But it's still very low. Currently it's at 3.48. I bought stock at around 11.5 (One month before Phenom release)! AMD still needs to get their CPU business in order. Server chips anyone?

very low indeed. CPU business is the weak side of AMD, i've been critical of AMD for a long time for not coming out with a new CPU architecture afterall K10 is only a revised K8 and K10B (Deneb) is still basically a revised K8. And it doesnt look like things will change much in the next year according to their roadmap. Deneb will prolly be competitive with C2D but it is a little too late. And server CPUs are just desktop variants so they still need a new architecture still. Bottom line is, AMD will not rise to its feet until they intro a competitive K11 (or whatever they want to call it), then they can produce all the CPU variants: desktop, server, mobile, etc based on the new architecture.

They are probably zapped with their own Kryptonite (K7/K8/k10) that they created to zap the 'I' boy.

The 'Super I Man' is already immune to Kryptonite. Find something else, hmm may be a Cat?
