What are some good speakers/headphones

I need to replace the current computer speakers I have. I either want a 2.1 set or a good pair of headphones. I just use the computer for games, so what are some good headphones/speakers and which would be better for gaming? I would like to keep it under $100 U.S (but the cheaper the better as long as quality isn't lost )

Sennheiser HD series for headphones...

For speakers under $100 I would say anything Creative or Logitech, as long as its above the $50 range because below that they both make pretty much junk in my experience.

I've been impressed w/ the $50 Cyber Acousics I bought a couple years back. Very good speakers for the money imo.

Well what's your situation? If you have to be quiet then headphones are an obvious choice. But if you can crank speakers they'll typically offer better range of sound, particularly the low frequencies of a sub, which are critical to gaming and movies imo.

Well I've thought about it and I think speakers would be the better option for me. I don't have to be quiet (although my parents might get mad if I crank em up really high )

May I ask why you want 2.1 over 5.1? I paid £78 for a set of Creative 2.1s that broke (3 times I had them replaced) then went out and bought a set of Logitech X540s for £56 that sound much better and have surround.

I would go for the logitech Z2300s as suggested earlier. They are better than the Razer makos iirc and would be better than headphones imo. Headphones might have better sound quality but actual speakers are much better overall, especially the bass. The logitechs are very good speakers and the subwoofer especially is awesome, nice and tight and goes pretty deep. I would highly recommend them!

Edit: OK I think I was confusing the mako's with something else lol! The Makos are better but are also $400...

Z-2300's are a good speaker choice, if you're looking at headphones still, sennheisers are great - like my HD555's

The z2300s are definitely worth the extra over the creatives you mentioned, give the logitechs a listen seriously you will be amazed, especially compared to creative inspires!
