YouTube Goes Widescreen

YouTube, the site that's everywhere around us for one reason or another, is finally widescreen ready. The first thing you'll notice when you enter YouTube today will be the new widescreen look of all uploaded videos and the slightly bigger aspect of the site. This highly anticipated widescreen update comes to replace the older 4:3 look of all videos. Now viewers can enjoy playing 16:9 videos in fullscreen. The site's width is also expanded to 960 pixels to better reflect the quality of the videos. The YouTube team also claims that all 4:3 videos will play just fine regardless of the new aspect ratio.

Yeah, I just started seeing this last night. Looks good for videos that are actually formatted in the 16:9 aspect ratio. Unfortunately, a lot of videos that claim to be widescreen are just letterboxed so you have the black bars on all sides. Great idea nonetheless and I can't wait to see more content in this format.

U have to catch them on the first couple of days of it being uploaded or it shall be not on google video anymore.

Now I just go to the websites, and normally I can watch my shows there with limited commercials.

You think Youtube would be any different if they increased the limits to 30 minutes?

Aye, I usually try Hulu.com, but they don't have shit there it seems.

Ever tried bittorrent? It's pretty much the only way to get older seasons of shows (I don't see anything wrong with it if they're already playing them for free on TV), but sites like Hulu.com or Fox will never show old seasons because it cuts into DVD sales.

Advertisement paid for it to be on TV. That's the whole problem with airing them online with no commercials.

I don't care if I have to watch commercials. ABC and lots of them let you watch older shows now with commercials. It's just that some shows they don't host at all.

And Tivo blocks that advertisement anyway.

Though, true, I wouldn't even mind a commercial or two if I got to watch them online in a completely legal manner -- I'm used to commercial breaks in shows, anyway.

I don't see anything wrong with it either but when using torrents my isp reduces my connection from 20mbs to 2mbs or less.

Ever tried encrypting? Or turning off your bittorrent upload and just leeching? The community will forgive you.

That being said, 2mbs or less is what I have to deal with every day.

I do encrypt and leave it uploading until I come round to turning it off which is usualy a few hours. Anyway i figure that since i paid for a 20mb connection they should let me keep it I upgraded from a 1mb connection so I could download it faster.

Does this really matter? If I use the full-screen feature the video stretches so far I can no longer make anything out.

connection speed is judged by your download rate right? like when you use speedtest.net, if it is then i have a 6mb connection and i only download at around 200kbs usually, though lucky occasions its around 500kbs+

at best speedtest tells me I should be downloading at 2 megabytes a second while uploading at 700 kilobytes a second. When they change my connection I get 500 kilobytes a second and 70 kilobytes upload.
