what kind do you use, silver or copper?

I only ask, cause around here, I've seen countless issues with silver - everything from it drying up and causing lugs to come off hard, to actually causing lugs to pull threads (not sure why, though, as it seems counter-intuitive to what AS does).

Copper, though . . . never had any issues with it. I use it all the time on certain vehicles notorious for rusting (*cough* Fords *cough*), for exhaust gaskets on high-heat applications, as well as a multi-purpose lube for drum brake hardware on HD utility vehicles.

Although, silver, again, I recommend against using for brake lubricant - besides the fact that it can dry up from the immense heat from normal brake operation, it doesn't provide enough lubrication properties compared to high-temp grease.

I know many techs that will run a nut down on a truck and keep going till the socket stops turning. But if you put a wheel on say a toyota 76 ft lbs of torque, don't run it down with a gun and set it with a torque wrench, there's at least a 10% chance of that wheel coming off. Again not that it WILL do, but that it CAN.
I understand your theory here, but I think it might depend some on regional climate as well - from my experience with the goop, it causes things to stick badly after it's dried up.

Except, as I mentioned just above, copper.

The key to putting anti-sieze on lug bolts is (like thermal paste) not to use too much. Just enough to keep things from oxidizing and falling apart. I have seen a couple lugs fall off (not anti-sieze related), but I've seen far more nuts and bolts fail from rust.

Lol, my favorite so far. Very to the point.
aha - I think I see something common here . . . salt. Y'all northerners use a lot of road salt during the winter - we have a lot of air-borne salt during the summer from the ocean wind . . .

hmmm . . .

Boogers, but you have to save them up for awhile and keep 'em moist. At least they're CHEAP. Never tried it myself though, just thought about it. Ridiculous, gross, assinine, etc., I know, but still gooey. I probably just thought of that because I have to blow my clogged-up nose ATM.

Copper. It comes in a larger jar and is made by Caterpillar. I don't use the silver stuff for anything. When it comes to brakes for lube I like to use synthetic grease which is usually green. But really I love coating as much as I can with that copper CAT stuff. This winter has been brutal so far, there isn't much to repel this kind of salt and ice/snow. Salty ice is a car killer!

just wondering, TBH - our shop purchases silver, but I have a bottle of copper in my toolbox that I prefer to use. My comeback rate is 0%, and I intend to keep it that way

Silver, I only use on exhaust gaskest and seals for the average vehicle - not high-heat output motors like diesels and high-displacement motors.

I'll use high-temp synthetic grease on car brakes, but utility trucks require something that can withstand higher heat levels, and copper AS is the only thing I know of that's capable. Asides, I've never had any issues with the stuff drying out like silver does.
