Graphics card heat
Hello all,
I'm posting for a bit of help. I'm trying to keep my graphics card as cool as I can. It can hit around 50C when playing games. I know whats alright - But I don't want it to be that hot. Without adding another heatsink / diffrent heatsink to it - What can I do to keep it cool. (EG - Are there any components I can screw around or on the case......Fans perhaps. If so - Could you please give me a price and a link.... Thanks

Do you raise your fan speed up on your cards....And as far as temps go thats pretty low now!!

I wouldn't worry about it considering most modern GPU's have a TJMax of 105C. And even for that card model it runs cooler than average. I wouldn't waste money on cooling unless you feel you absolutely MUST have it.

my overclocked 3870 runs at 81 C load and 50 C at IDLE! you'll be fine as-is ;-)
Since the prices of graphics cards are coming down so much, i don't really think buying a vga hsf is worth the money anymore. think about it, the cost for a vga hsf is about the same as the jump between a 512mb 4850 and 512mb 4870. we all know that a 4850+hsf won't oc anywhere near 4870 performance, so.... that's pretty much the reason why i have this 4870 in the mail right now and not this 4850 :-D just point a spare 80mm fan at your card and call it good.

You could get a PCI slot fan.
This is the one I have. It does the job, keeps the card cooler than usual. As the others have said, that's a good temp for your card. But I'm like you and want it to be ice cold all the time!! I'm using an Antec 1200, I've put the fantastic Arctic Cooling Acellero on my card AND I use a PCI slot fan.

50degC max load is a very low temperature for the HD4850 considering reference versions like mine can reach up to 98degC and can stay at 80degC idle after gaming without one sign of issue.

I got a 92mm fan and attached it to the side of the case so it's pointing at the 4850, my temps went down by 3C. You're not going to be able to get it below 50 at load tho without watercooling (mine is in the high 50's when overclocked at load)

I just raised my fan speed to 40% while idle and 35c is my idle temp now vs. the 50c.

I'd be happy to purchase one of these: http://www.antec.com/usa/productDeta...an=us&id=77194
As long as they were in the UK. Anyone else know where I can get them from...? |

Here!
And it's from Ebuyer, one of the best in the UK. Here it is from Overclock.co.uk Cheaper here too. Overclock has had good reviews from what I've read.

The CPU I'm using at work idles at 54c. 50c is a cool temp for a video card especially under load.
