Gaming resolutions
For gaming, are there any major differences in 1680x1055 vs. 1920x1200? I want a 24" monitor and I plan to get another 4850, but a 22" is easier on the pockets. I really want a 24" thou.

1. Yes, The higher the resolution the better the quality but you lose FPS.
2. SLI Crossfire benefit greatly at higher resolutions 3. There is a change your AMD 5000 might bottleneck 4850s in crossfire

I've been thinking about the bottlenecking too. I hate how when I built this computer about 7 months ago, this stuff was on the way out. I'm thinking about building a new machine. It might be a good time to.

I think the BEST lcd monitor for a gaming rig is a 22" HighDefinition (1920x1080) like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236053

Love gaming at 1440x900, just depends if you like gaming bigger for smaller.

If you compare 1680x1050 22" WS LCD vs 1900x1080 24" WS LCD, you won't see any QUALITY different between those two, except BIGGER pictures. The quality would be different only if it has higher resolution on same screen size. Example: 1900x1080 22" LCD in theory has better picture quality than 1680x1050 22" LCD.

and yea you would a lose a bunch of FPS gaming at that res, worse tack on the AA and your 512mb vid card is starting to feel the brunt...and a bad cpu doesn't make it any easier. |

I have noticed no difference in 1400x900 to 1680x1050. I run 1400 because it's easier on my 2600's, but there is no real difference.

Always get the highest resolution you can afford. Do try to get 1080p
Yes it makes a difference - my 22" is 1680x1050, the laptop's 17" 1920x1200. The latter's picture perfect... I used to love gaming on the larger monitor but now I really see it inferior quality. :/ |

I dunno 17in with 1920x1200 though that's insane for res... I thought that wouldn't scale very well at all. but I guess that's the trend now for lappies.

1680*1050 is becoming the standard right now.
If you're going to g 24" though I would pick up a beefier card or another 4850, because the game that put a little more strain on your system aren't going to be able to run smooth on a 4850 # 1920*1200

I just bought a 1920x1080 monitor myself...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009157 I have no doubt in my mind my 4850 will be fine. I have played some games on my 56'' 1920x1080 HDTV and they run good. |

Also buying a second card technically increases the amount of memory, but that's not how it works. The memory is shared when using Crossfire or SLI so theoretically it still operates like 512MB even if you crossfire 4 512MB cards. |

Check out the "pixel pitch" when buying. Smaller number = Better image quality.

Do yourself a favour and buy the highest resolution screen you can afford. You will enjoy it much more for every single activity outside gaming, like internet, email, photoshop, ms word, PDF reading, etc. And for gaming it will be much better IF your GPU can cope with the particular game. However, if it cant, you can still run it at a lower resolution and the TFT will upscale for you. It doesnt look so great at running at native, but is faster, AND is usually at least as good as running it on a lower resolution screen.

I game @ 1920x1200 on a 24". Running a single 4850 was very good, 2 4850's CF'ed is great. COD4 everything running maxed out I run around 125-200 FPS (depending on whats going on)

The 17" laptop that Black Panther has probably has really high dpi (dots per inch), that's why it can handle such high resolution. I bet it looks really amazing .

Upgrading from the 3800 series was like night and day @ 1920x1200. The 3800's would run it pretty well. With the 4850's I had a very nice FPS increase in COD4. I would recommend this upgrade for anyone looking for more FPS at a good price.

I got some good info, but the question is will there be bottlenecking at either resolution?
