EVGA Makes its 55nm GeForce GTX 260 Lineup Official, Intros SSC Variant
About a week into its market introduction, EVGA today made its 55nm GeForce GTX 260 graphics cards lineup official. The company also introduced a premium Super-Superclocked (SSC) variant of the said card. While having identical reference clock speeds to those of the 65nm GeForce GTX 260 Core-216 lineup, the new lineup offers higher energy efficiency and improved thermal characteristics.
The SSC variant introduced has clock speeds of 675 MHz (core), 1,458 MHz (shader) and 2,304 MHz (memory). It is backed by the EVGA limited lifetime warranty. EVGA also disclosed the suggested retail prices for the entire lineup (North American region) in its press-release, so you know which prices to buy them at: US $259.99 for the base model (896-P3-1255-AR), $269.99 for the Superclocked model (896-P3-1257-AR) and $289.99 for the SSC model (896-P3-1258-AR). ![]() Source: EVGA |

The SSC version is slightly better overclocked than the XFX Black Edition, I'm really glad that I didn't buy the Black Edition until now.
But when are they going to release it ? Because I checked their website, it says near the GPU image (Notify me) |

The EVGA store went out of stock/awaiting stock I guess. The model is launched throughout.

I'm waiting for the GTX285. This 55nm GTX260 SSC has the same clock speeds as my current GTX260's 24/7 overclock. Man, I hope they release the GTX285 soon, so I can use my step-up.

They where on Evga's website almost a week ago. You were able to buy them then.. I guess it was a "sneaky" opening...

I don't understand why people get all excited about this... no reason to buy it, unless you didn't purchase already a HD4800 or GT200, and this wasn't worth the wait, then again its best to wait for newer versions like GT300

yea I think this is a huge let down, more heat, more power for a 55nm vs 65nm?
I think they made it like this to help push old product, but yea no reason to buy this if you have a GTX200/4870 card. With GT212 3-4 months away its kinda pointless, unless the prices come way down under $200.00 |

And GT212 is going to be weaker than the GT200b, it is going to be the mid-range card of the GTX 200 series. Personally, I wait for the die shrink before buying. I had 9800GTX's up until about a week ago, when newegg offered 15% off for one day only for paying with paypal, so I decided to go to a GTX260, and I only did because I knew I could use my step-up to get the 55nm version.

Newtekie: that's the best way to do it! Did it with my 9800gx2.. Got the 280 for shipping costs!
With Evga, it's sometimes the better way to get a newer card just to set-up.. The reason for it, is that once a die-shrink, or a new series of cards come out, the pricing goes WAY down.. The 9800gx2 was a perfect example. Was $599 for the card, then you where seeing the week the GTX series came out, it went to $320 almost..

Never mind, GT212 is the replacement to GT200b, your right, it might be better. For some reason I was thinking of GT214.
The power consumption numbers are higher under load. Most likely due to the 4 power Phases on the 55nm vs. the 3 on the 65nm. Of course this also lead to better overclocking, which I am fine with.

what you think about gtx285 did it have high range in overclock like gtx260 , or it is already an gtx260 with extreme overclock maybe low overclock range like gtx280 and 4870x2

Well the GTX285 is a 55nm GTX280, so I would guess the overclocking range will be lower than this 55nm GTX260. However, those final overclocks will still outperform the final overclocks of the 55nm GTX260.

Nvidia should name their next gpu the gtxWhatever.
It would be easier if they dropped old ones whn they bring out new revisions, but i guess they still want to make money on the older ones.
