DFI Releases Two New Core i7 Motherboards

DFI made additions to its Core i7 compatible motherboard lineup today by releasing two new motherboards under the LANParty Dark and LANParty Junior series. While pictures and specifications of the LANParty JR X58-T3H6 surfaced earlier, its introduction makes it a one of its kind mATX motherboard supporting the Core i7 platform. DFI started its Core i7 motherboard series with the enthusiast-grade LANPARTY UT X58-T3eH8. Its newest entry that comes to surface is its LANParty Dark motherboard: the LANParty DK X58-T3eH6.

The LANParty DK X58-T3eH6 uses essentially the same PCB layout as the LANPARTY UT X58-T3eH8, except for a few changes: the CPU power ciruit and the component cooling. While the UT board comes with digital-PWM, the DK board comes with standard choke-based 6-phase CPU power circuit. It uses chipset and VRM coolers identical to those of the LANParty JR board, comprising of a simplistic northbridge cooler that propagates into the VRM cooler, while a heatsink cools the southbridge. It provides three PCI-Express x16 slots (electrically x16, x8, x8 or x16, NC, x16). These two motherboards are expected to reach retailers soon.

I know! I'm a little dissapointed. If the price is right, I will get one anyways.

The colour of those expansion slots are subject to change. Note the colour of the slots on that JR board in this news post and the one on the board pictured earlier (linked).

Awesome there bringing a MATX Core i7 board to the market. The colors are pretty ugly, but it doesnt matter that much to me.

The colors don't look too bad under a black light. Still... I am happy with my board for now.

Good to see that DFi are still alive & kicking. Despite whats been happening in the motherboard markets recently.

I honestly dont think that they expected Asus or Foxconn even to step up their game & release 'proper' enthusiast boards like they did.

In fact - I wonder what their current market share & yearly profits are like. 5 years ago, you couldnt turn a page in a pc hardware mag without seeing something to do with DFi. it almost seems that DFI are washed out. unless they devote all their time & funds to other departments/projects like when Hercules announced that it would be pulling out of the graphics market & put all their efforts into Music/Studio equipment.

how do DFI continue to exist in their current predicament???

almost Zero advertising (I read a lot of pc mags) compared to Asus - DFI dont have that many models of boards out on the market.

I dont know what they do with all their spare time but they are either 1 of 2 things.

1. Washed out.
2. holding back & watching the market so they make the best decisions at the best times.

The day i burnt my DFi board was the best day of my pc's life. The DFi board was holding me back for ages. Ofcourse the Asus Striker i swapped it for wasnt much better, but it was. I regreted the purchase of the DFi board and swore no never bother with a motherboard that reminds me of a circus.
The quality of my DFi board was that poor, i wouldnt be surprised if someone said to me the reason they use so many stupid colours is because those parts are left overs. Maybe ive just had a really bad experience with DFi boards and should keep to myself. Ever since and even before i never looked at DFi twice and never will. The only reason i purchased mine was because im stupid and do stupid things One things for sure thou, until this UT X58-T3eH8 there has always been a better mainstream board for much cheaper prices. Please note, that if a year 1997 model DFi board happen to clock a cpu that extra 20Mhz, it doesnt count in my books.

Ive been expecting DFi to exit the market for some time now. It was just a matter of the current DFi board owners realizing that DFi are not the only ones taking care of enthusiests these days and theres better boards then theres out there. Then again even thou you can change the colour of the brick wall, doesnt mean your going to have a convo with it.

which board are you describing in particular? I've had no end of success with my P45 now that I'm over my niggles with it (the RAM itself is at fault which I had attributed to the board)

Just because the first time we have sex is extremely bad doesn't mean sex is bad. Probably you're not very good at it or the girl (or boy) wasn't right.

It just looks ridiculous to hold a grudge to a manufacturer for one bad experience we had...

If you had more than one i'm sorry. I've had one Asus board and all other to date have been DFi. And you're opinion about the components is way out off place...

Asus craps motherboards like they're a bunny factory. And that to me is something i fear a lot.

Sweet, it usually takes a while for mATX Crossfire and SLi boards to come out, I love that this board is coming out already.

I really think I might make my first i7 build a LAN box.

My AMD DFI board was $65, and clocks like Asus's $150 boards of that time. 342 HT stable, right out of the box. 360HT with better cooling.

Getting a single bad board from a company that otherwise has a solid reputation does not mean that all their boards are bad.

Sorry, i should have explained that ive had several in the past. Just always seemed to find something better with better ram compatability.

I wish i had a single bad experience. I have to admit thou, ive had way more bad experiences with Asus then i have with DFi, but then again DFi cant compare to the amount of boards Asus have, their variety and/or compatability.

Sorry to sidetrack a little, but is anyone sure if Abit has officially stopped production of motherboards ? I know its been a long time comming and they were going to focus on memory and other gadgets just not sure if tonight is the last night . . .

According to DFI Sales, the Jr is set to hit the market on 1/20 with a price around $200. There will also be a nVidia certified version of the the mATX board coming as well.
