GeForce 185.20 Released - Now With Ambient Occlusion

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...11190&Itemid=1

Interestingly enough, these new drivers contain a new Ambient Occlusion setting in the Nvidia Control Panel:

Don't forget to read the description of Ambient Occlusion at the bottom ^.

The effect of Ambient Occlusion is particularly emphasized in titles such as Crysis:

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit
GeForce 185.20
Nvidia PhysX 8.11.18
Crysis: WARHEAD
DirectX 10

2048 x 1152 (16:9)

Core i7 965 Extreme @ 3.74GHz
GeForce GTX 280 @ 685/2240

AO OFF (19fps)

AO LOW (17.8fps)

AO MEDIUM (16.6fps)

AO HIGH (13.1fps)

3DMark Vantage results:

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit build 7000

Hardware-Infos.com has its own review up of the drivers now. Please check it out:

http://www.hardware-infos.com/tests.php?test=52

I believe it only works in Vista. It's not working in Windows 7 (and XP I believe).

I'm not getting Ambient Occlusion on my rig either, running XP Pro x64, evga 9800gt. It does look an awful lot like DX10.

Wow those screens are bullshit, it looks like a DX9 vs DX10 comparison, the lighting is completely different (look at the rays for instance); Ambient occlusion only adds global, soft shadows, not crisp shadows depending on light source like there and not certainly rays of light like in the second shot..

I had a 8800GT for 10 months (I changed to a 4870 a week ago) and I've been a game artist for over 4 years, don't you think I know a *BIT* more about shaders and general stuff about game engines like the average TPU-goer? Damn asinine fanboys..

Stop now.

The only thing I'm afraid of using these drivers is loosing my beloved textures in GTAIV.

WOW at the ambient occlusion. But isn't that a Crysis Feature rather than Nvidia's CP feature reading from the source you provided

Btw How did you get Windows 7 ?

The Public Beta is supposedly going to be launched during CES2009 this January. All pre-betas and the leaked copies of the Public beta are either torrents or for MSDN/developers only.
