Upgrade: Worth the Hassle?

Hello everbody!

I have the opportunity to buy some cheap Hardware in a Swiss auction website.

- I was wondering if it's a good idea to sell my Zotac 9800 GT OC (Performs on the level of a 8800GTS G92) for a HD 4830/4850. If I get a HD4830 for instance, and OC to boost it, then acquire another cheap one in like 4-5 month with a bigger PSU. Worth the hassle? Or is a HD4850 a decent upgrade from a 9800GT OC?

- Is going RAID worth the hassle? I could get another HD322HJ from Samsung. Will I notice a significant boost in system reponse and or Boot times? Worth the risk of loosing Data in case of failure?

Thanks for your help!

I think the 4850 comes close to being better preformance than the 9800 GT, you dont see a huge jump unless you go with a 4870 or higher, but better off seeing ATI users here on their experiance

Raid 0? never had a problem with raid for 2 years, and performance in gaming or anything is alot more faster,. quicker response time, etc.. Of course there is a chance if 1 HDD fails, your screwed and you have to start fresh new.

Basically its your decision if you want to do these changes and if you have the time to play around with it. GPU isnt a big deal, if you have the money, you should just save up for a high end GPU like a 4870x2 , but for the raid , its very hard to say the failure rate . People can live on it forever, some get unlucky , its a 50/50 chance ...

Thank for your advice! I'm really considering RAID, since I could get the second HD322HJ pretty cheap and a RAID with single platter drive is pretty sweet! Still hesitating about the Graphic Card upgrade. Hope some other members can help me on this one.

Cheers!

I had 3 9800GTX's in my system, now I only use one and I am still able to play any game without hesitation .

WoW, COD5, TF2, any game on high, especially crysis...

Not a huge upgrade, but if ya have the money, its better off buying a gpu that will last you a while

i think you should save a bit more and buy hd 4870 or even hd 4850X2,

but going for hd 4850 will get you better performance in hight resolution and AA,

go for raid 5 if you concern about loosing your data(it's provide perfomance RAID0 and safety RAID 1)

sorry for my bad english

RAID 5 requires a minimum of 3 drive, humm might think about it though it's not what I had in mind...

Its a waste of an upgrade.

The 9800 GT is slightly slower than the ATI 4830
The 9800GTX+ is equivalent to the ATI 4850

Technically a overclocked 4830 should perform the same as the 4850 but its not worth the hassle. It's a lot of hassle for an extra 10 FPS.

Unless you're going buying a 4870 X2 or better I wouldn't waste the time to upgrade. The 9800 GT can play games in high detail and resolution at crazy frame rates.

Edit:

Raid for backup is worth it, but as far as a performance boost its a lot of hassle.

Thanks for your advices guys!
Yeah I decided not to upgrade. I just got excited seeing a cheap HD4830 for like 50 dollars, and had to whole crossfire idea and all, and thought the better AA performance and DX 10.1 would be worth it ...
