It isn't like this is anything new, the Fatal1ty branding has been used on low end cards for several generations. There was a 6200 Fatal1ty cards, a 7300 Fatal1ty card, and an 8400 fatality card.
It is pretty much the gimmick used to attract buyers to these low end cards.

yeah I am one of the idiots buying 9600 nvidia card just because of the price. LOL. it's not like we are playing 10 different video games on our machine. So doesn't bother me it has low quality use. Besides 50fps is better than 15 on what most of the low end cards are starting out these days with the games. just a matter what people want and how they are using these graphics cards. some may want the super graphics vs these low end cards. |

I wouldn't buy it first and foremost because it's a 9400 GT; second reason is it being an XFX (eVGA has better HSFs and warranty); and thridly because it is a Fatal1ty product.
Fatal1ty means two things: 1) You'll pay extra in royalties to go to Wendel's retirement fund. 2) You are receiving a product that isn't worthy of the quality trademark of the manufacturer (like Platinum for MSI). That is, the same companies offer something better for about the same price.

I don't know about the HSFs, but eVGA has pretty much been using stock HSFs since the 8800 series hit the market, with the exception of a few dual slot coolers that perform worse than the single slot stock coolers, and the stupid AKIMBO cooler which by the time you paide the markup for the AKIMBO edition card you might as well just buy a stock card and add a better aftermarket HSF. And their warranty is definitely not any better. In fact XFX's warranty is better, as it is transferrable once.

I admit, I'm out of the loop. I hadn't looked at video cards for over a year. XFX were getting miserable reviews about failed fans, loud fans, crappy overclocking potential on stock HSF, etc. I went eVGA and never looked back. Things have obviously changed since then but I'm still not inclined to buy an XFX especially when there is nothing to complain about with eVGA.

Yeah, XFX released a really crappy cooler on the 8800GS, it was loud and ran at 100% non-stop. They used it on their low end 8800GT also. They learned their lesson after that.

Best Buy shotty upgrade!!
I can see this as an easy up-sale to any family with kids buying a new comp, I can hear the geeks now..."Ohh yeah Fatal1ty is the best gamer alive, if you wanna play like him and the games he played 6 years ago at top speeds buy this card. It will run Halo at 40 fps at 1024x768 resolutions and give you a 3.9 in vista aero a great upgrade for 89.99 and are Geek Squad will install for only $29.99 but I also recommend our B.S. blah blah B.S."
I'll be at Best Buy the day it releases cause I gotta get it, I want to break the 3dmark record. It really is a bummer this isnt Sli Capable or it would really fly in 3dmark and probably score 6500+ with C2D sux we can't try it out. Just have to bench one of them XFX isnt that bad(I own 780i + 2 8800gt's) but this is BAD!!! |
