8800GTS 512 > HIS Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5

Ive managed to get a friend whose interested to take my 8800GTS 512 off me for £70-80. so i got a bit of cash to go towards my next card.

what do u guys think of the HIS Hightech Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 card?? keep in mind i will be buying this along with other parts for a completely new system so bottle necking wont happen hopefully.

I game at 1680x1050 on a 22" screen.

what are your thoughts on the card & is there a more bang for buck card available that you'd recommend???

I think it would look great on a 22". If you get a quad core with it you'll be flyin

Before dissapaired on newegg 192SP versions of GTX 260. Were about 190$ after rebates. And you could freely get 512mb version I don`t think it would matter on 1680x1050. Future proofing for larger monitor does not make sence I bet that you will change the Graphic before you change monitor again.

ive decided to go for the Q9550. even though AMD X4 940's are cheaper. im just not too confident about AMD right now after reading a lot of 'positive' but rather mixed bag of online reviews.

That's not exactly worth to upgrade, your old GTS G92 can do gaming just fine at that resolution, going to HD4870 will give you like 10% performance boost but then cost you ton more.

I say you keep that vga card, get a new SLI board and a cpu.

No, that will be on a different rig, not yours, your cpu gonna bottle neck the hell out of the newer GPU, it already do with the 8800GTS.

EDIT: If you have Company of Heroes, or Lost Planet, I will do a lil benchmark on those game with my single 8800GT at same setting as yours.

How long will you move to a new set of CPU/Mobo?

Because CPU and mainboard have more stable prices than VGA cards.

If I were you, I would keep that card for SLI later, you don't need 1GB card at that resolution.

My rig maxes out all games on my 20" 1680x1050 I can throw at it (with the exception of Crysis).

Yea I couldn't even max crysis with a GTX 280 and 3.4ghz quad core so I would just leave that game out..
