Gaming type Router
Hello guys,
I'm looking to buy a router since I will be splitting my connection into 2 rooms. I need something that will still allow me to game while the other person surfs the web. I've got a 7mb download connection, so I'm sure it's plenty fast to cover both our needs with the right router. I'm looking for something along the lines of d-link gamer lounge or such. Budget is not too high, but I will take any top of the line "gaming" router into consideration. I'm very anxious to buy, and have cash in hand/paypal lol. So let me know what you guys have. EDIT : Also, well I'll be building another setup since my income tax refund just came in!!!! I'm looking for 500-600 watt modular power supplies, pc power and cooling, seasonic, corsair etc. Also micro atx am2 motherboard, something that will support Phenom II, oh and of course a cheap phenom II Mouse/keyboard, saitek keyboard is fine, Logitech G5 is fine too, something along that grade Oh and a video card, will be running a 24" monitor, so the cheapest 4850 I can find will suffice. A WD aaks hard drive too, would be good... Well I guess I should change the title then lol, but please, PM me. Thanks for your time guys! Mike Feedback is under user name sotelomichael @ heatware.com

"Gaming" routers are a waste of money.
Buy a WRT54GL, put some custom firmware on it, and you have one of the best consumer routers on the market.

I have a wrt54g linksys and I have three machines running on it. No issues yesterday I had a few demos downloading at 1.5mbps while playing l4d with my friend on one of the additional computers. No lag no issues. Gamer just means a heavier dent in your wallet.

agh I guess you're right in that sense, I don't need the "fatality" type of equipment. I just felt that if I said Gamer, people on here would recognized the real need. Which is a good router that can prioritize gaming or can adjust how much bandwidth goes where.

That is the primary reason I suggest the WRT54GL. The stock firmware is ok, but the router really comes to life with 3rd party firmware. They add the ability for QoS, so you can prioritize traffic and computers along with a bunch of other neat features, and make the router extremely stable.
