But you can't buy it... just pre-order it. And what exactly does the term "Best package" mean? Nicest, most colourful box of promises?

And how about a more objective set of criteria to define "best"? Let's try these:

1./ Screen resolution and quality
2./ Keyboard
3./ Non-refection, ease of readability
4./ Battery life
5./ Ports, esp. ease of hooking up to external display for TV or presentations
6./ Weight
7./ Upgradability, esp. mem
8./ Warranty
9./ Other features

On those criteria, every COMPARATIVE review I have seen comes up with the SAMSUNG NC10 as the BEST.

Now, I do like the NC10, and it would be my choice of netbook. But I also like ASUS and they did get out to market first. BUT, at least I am ready to define "best" rather than handing out the compliment nilly-willy.

In the last 12 months, a new industry has been born: advertising and marketing copy for internet forums... full of spin, written to a very different quality and accuracy than 24 months ago (just take a look even here on TPU), and now "testimonial based false truths" are becoming prevelant in this advertising copy.

It goes like this:

We hired a PR firm to hand out free stickers, popcorn and noodles to 5 people in a shop, with the "company logo" on it. We then showed these 5 people a colourful box containing the said product with a bumper sticker saying "free noodle coupons". We then asked these 5 people if they think that "said company" has the best product. They all say "Hell ya, give me the noodles". Therefore consumers say we have the best product. QED.

Had to make an account just to say this ...
1. The resolution is the same (1024x600); about the quality I am not sure and I'd guess you can't know either since you mentioned that the ASUS can only be pre-ordered, so I think you don't have one to compare to the NC10
2. What makes the samsung keyboard better ? The anti-bacterial treatment perhaps ? I used both eeePC 901 and 1000 and while their keyboards aren't exactly confy (I actually don't like notebook keyboards and that includes keyboards from 15"-17" inch notebooks as well), I can't say they are bad at all (especially the 1000 one) and the 1000HE has an updated keyboard which is said to be better than the older ones
3. The ASUS screen aren't really reflective and they have anti-glare treatment, just like the Samsung NC10 has and according to previews the 1000HE has an excelent screen (better than the ones that the older generation used)
4. Battery life is clearly in favor of the ASUS, by quite a margin
5. Both have 3 USB2.0, one VGA port, a card reader supporting only SD / MMC /SDHC, headphones & microphone ports and one RJ-45; no difference that I can see there
6. The ASUS is heavier by 120g, but also packs a beefier battery, so I'd guess that with the same type of battery they'd both have the same weight
7. Both have a single mem. slot which is just as easily upgraded and the size is limited by the chipset to 2G
8. 2 years for ASUS, 1 year for Samsung; I'd say the ASUS warranty is better
9. What other features ? The ASUS has a faster CPU (the difference is small, but it is faster), faster memory support (again small difference in real world, but faster), support for draft-N (not a big difference since it uses a 1T2R chipset)

You forgot that the Asus has two mouse buttons, while the samsung has only one, a big issue for users.

The 6600mAH battery claims to run up to 5 hours, but average people will get 3 hours top due to EPC being a netbook. This 8700mAH battery can probably provide 5 hours top. But it's still good and the best.

Not interested in the details... but am glad that you adopted a more objective approach to qualifying something as "best" rather than just tenuously saying consumers say so - even though there are NO consumers who actually have one... That's the point of my post. I personally dont care which is "best", but, you can just throw around an assessment of "best" without determining and communicating the criteria of judgement.

My 1000H has brought me many enjoyable hours of quake3 tournament......ah nothing like letting people know they were fragged by a netbook.

and for the battery, I can sit on the couch and post comments from 4pm to 11pm on a single charge.

I do wish the screen resolution was higher.

BBY caries the 1000HE in stores 6 cell battery and 160GB HDD+10GB SSD which i kinda like i would get it over the sammy netbook
