Newegg Open Box Items
If you buy an open box item from Newegg and it doesn't work, can you still return it and get a refund? I'm talking something like a motherboard.
Thanks. |

read up on their terms and conditions. I believe that there is no possibility of warranty from egg or the company, but it should fall under the 30 days policy.

Thanks. I can get a P45 motherboard for about $40-$50 less by buying open box. I wonder if I should get it.

If you think it's worth it, I would get it. Newegg allows you to return the item if it's DOA.

Heres the policy
Open Box This is our Detailed Open Box Item Return Policy. Newegg often sells items that are listed as "open-box." Because these items are sold at greatly reduced prices, they are subject to this limited 30 day non-replaceable returns policy. Such items can only be returned within 30 days of the applicable invoice date. “Return” constitutes receipt of the product by Newegg, and not the mere issuance of an RMA. Newegg cannot provide replacement service for these items, as their stock is limited. The entire risk as to the quality and performance of these items is with the buyer. These items have been tested for functionality, but may have superficial physical defects including, but not limited to, scratches, dings or dents. Should these items exhibit a functional defect following their purchase, the buyer (not the manufacturer, distributor, or Newegg) assumes the entire cost of all necessary servicing or repairs, unless otherwise required by law. These items are not covered by any 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you purchase an Open-Box product you will receive an OEM or BAREBONE item, meaning you will only receive the item itself. Accessories are NOT INCLUDED with Open-Box products, even if the missing accessory is required for the item to function properly.

I got an open box motherboard a while ago (Asus P5B-VM SE) and it didn't work. I didn't get around to testing it until it was too late to send it back so I decided to RMA it with ASUS, who sent me a fixed and completly functional board. So if Newegg won't take it back, you might be able to RMA it with the manufacturer.

Ive ordered my last 3 boards from the egg open box. All have worked great except for an Asus one which had a dead IDE port.
Only downside is that you usually will not get an I/O plate. |

Basically you are risking downtime from waiting on an RMA when buying Open box items. I have never had a unworking item come from buying open box from newegg(4 purchases over 3 years). |

I was even up-front about the OpenBox portion of it. So ASUS is pretty good about that. They told me the S/N on my card was an OEM straight from ASUS and that they still warranty them as long as they were purchased from a licenses Retailer (which Newegg is). |

I didn't even mention that the mobo was an Open Box, I just gave them the serials and it went along as if it were new.

I ordered an ASUS P5N32-E from them open box. It came with just the motherboard, and nothing else, not even the Supreme FX card. The motherboard worked fine for a few months, then died. ASUS gave me an RMA on it, and even sent me a whole know retail package with all the accessories.
