Samsung Adopts VIA Nano Processor for the Samsung NC20 12.1'' Mini-Notebook

VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of power efficient x86 processor platforms, today announced that Samsung has adopted the VIA Nano processor in the new Samsung NC20 mini-notebook.

Mobility is enhanced by 802.11b/g and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a six-cell battery that provides up to 6.5 hours of use independent of any power supply, while storage options include either a solid state disk or a SATA hard disk drive. Other features include an integrated 1.3 mega pixel digital motion camera, 3-in-1 memory card reader and three built-in USB ports.

I'm so used to 1920x1200 and 1920x1080, I wouldn't mind a 12" 1200P netbook

It will be interesting to see how the public received this not being an Atom processor.

My only beef is that the via used in the HP netbook runs really hot, and from what I understand, the HP (mini-note, I believe?) is the noisiest of the netbooks. Whereas the Dell mini 9 is the quietest (my reason for buying it) because there is not one fan- the keyboard is actually used as one big heatspreader!

I don't get why people are saying the battery's good on this one, the NC10 can easily breach 10 hours just by turning the wireless off and turn the volume down.

I have an HP mini-note 2133 with via (c7) and it is quiet but the cpu is crappy @ 1.2GHz the other hp models (2133) has via c7 1.6GHz and the 10 inch has an atom cpu @ 1.6GHz
Any way I will see what are the specks of the nano

P.S. Via C7 1.2 GHz has a TDP of 5W !!!

c7 is crap, but nano is a very good processor (compared to its competition).

the nano is still 65nm same as c7 atom is 45nm
is the 1.6 supposed to be faster then atom or the 1.8

The Nano is far ahead of the Atom in terms of architecture; it has 1 MB of L2 cache, compared to the Atom's 512 kb. It has Out-of-order execution, which allows it to run multiple instructions at once. The Atom uses Pentium P5 arch, which is much slower than the Pentium Pro (which uses OOO Execution).
Also, the VIA chipsets are head and shoulders above Intel's GSE945, which somewhat ballences out the power usage.
