Safe E8500 Voltage - Long Term
So the PC in my specs is being an incredible pain in the ass. Not sure what part it is, but all new parts are on their way. I'll figure this out one way or the other....
But anyway, I grabbed an E8500 (due in tuesday)... what would be a safe voltage for it... long term use? I don't leave it on overnight or during the day, just for gaming and such a few hours a week... Any thoughts? Oh and it will be running under an apogee GTX and 2x120 DD rad, not worried about temps (quad ran under 40C load 1.425V) |

I wouldn't really go over 1.5v. That being said any higher volts will always shorten the life it's just flat out more stress on it. But 1.5v if you can maintain a good temp should be just fine, after that it's going to get real hairy.

i dont go over 1.4 - IMO there is no OCing benfit past that.

1.3625 V is considered max safe voltage by intel (under load) so therefore chip will probably not degrade at that and at a lower value. I'd stick to that myself.
45nm chips are rated at 1.3625, 65nm chips are rated at 1.5V (all C2D)

The 45nm can not take the volts the way the older 65nm could. They have a voltage breakdown phenomenum related to their metalization layer due to the new process they use. So I personally keep my E8400 and E8200 at about 1.375V and would not run them over 1.4V except for some benchmarking. I would suggest 1.4V max.
