Confirmed: ASUS to Phase Out 7-inch Eee PC Netbooks

Someone wrote today that there are too many Eee PCs to choose from. Yes, there are indeed so ASUS is to phase out some of them that are considered not vital for the brand. Rumors about this step were circulating for the past month.

I still believe we have a good opportunity in 8.9-inch for kids, telecoms [providers] or emerging markets. The seven-inch [netbook] is going to be phased out, although some emerging countries may still have some demand.
company chairman Jonney Shih said on Tuesday. ASUSTeK's other netbook at risk, the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900, remains available for sale and won't suffer its little brother's fate as previously reported.

small factor (with small price in mind) was always for poor countries, not US or Europe. here kids need 60" touch screen displays to "draw with fingers"...

Not at all -- I find the 8.9 or 10-in screens fine (with 1024 resolution at least). But that 7in screen was horrible, and yes, I've used one before for a while.

I always like those 9" netbooks. Extremely portable, just like carrying 2 notebooks.

I thought that was the original intention, small, lightweight, and easily portable. I'm confused, when is a netbook not a netbook, oh my, just hit , when it morphs into a laptop.

Someone at TPU got confused now or a month ago, I swear I saw an article saying Asus was phasing out the 8.9 inch models and leaving the 7 inch ones for telecomms providers. 10.2" ones are the best for me since I can't type on the 8.9" ones, hell the 10.2" ones are still painful if you're touch typing for 45 minutes straight, managed to disjoint my finger doing a timed essay today, bloomin' painful.

I don't understand why you would want To make a laptop bigger, unless of course it's a gaming laptop. The majority of people don't game on laptops though, they are like me using it for business /school.

I'm pretty sure the physical size of the laptop isn't changing, just the ones with the smaller screens will be phased out. The 7in screen EEE has the same case as the 8.9in, right?

You're right and wrong, I think they made a one with a 9 inch screen in the 10 inch machine's chassis which is about £40 cheaper, not sure about 7 inch monitors in larger chassiss though (Yeah, I don't know how to pluralise the word chassis).
