Any need for such response? its a discussion of a new card.

I, and many Dutch people, prefer to be direct with things and love black humor, sarcasm satire and even mocking ourselves. The problem with this is that other people tend to be more uptight and have loads taboos. If someone goes to a tech forum to say he thinks his mom died because she didn't get home I tell him to just go to bed because he's overreacting and his mother is fine (and be right about it, I have to admit I gloated when he shared that little fact). If you find that harsh, wrong, distasteful or whatever that's fine. Though don't claim I'm hiding behind my mod status in these cases. We can always just agree to disagree in such matters.

PS please don't abuse the name of Christ. It insults me.
I totally understand where your coming from, and I see you in a new light now. I apologise for using you as an example dan. I rest that part of my issue.

You clearly made the connection that he should have answered in the spirit of the forum (hardware related) and are making a point of it because he didn't.

Secondly, last I checked the UK and the Netherlands were different nations. How can you expect to be International Humor Moderator when you want to throw him away for his humor? You'd be entering the position already biased. Clearly you aren't as open minded as the job would require. I didn't prove your point in the least, I stated that you're trying to string him up for his humor (I gathered as much using the way you described how much you were talking with Wizzard about him) and in the next paragraph wanting to be made a mod to help avoid misunderstandings? We don't need to add mods coming in with a chip on their shoulder.

Let's look at how you responded to my post. You responded in a very short and belligerent manner. Most of your rebuttals came across as very snobbish and 'I'm looking down on your post' instead of making it well constructed and useful to help me change my point of view. Were I so inclined, I could take offense. But I don't because quite simply, life is too short and its the internet. You can't expect to win people over with that kind of response. I don't think you've thought this one through enough.
i haven't thought it through enough, your right. Just wanted to get a couple of things off my chest that didn't necessarily have to be aired. I apologise for any inconvenience I have caused, but a few aspects of my original post do still stand, as afformentioned.

And I know Dan is not technically braking the rules, just seems a shame that it is (IMO) one rule for him another for everyone else. (on the sig/avatar side of things)

I did, I animated them. An admin actually allowed me to have it. And as you may know, admins outrank me.

On the other hand, I could just edit the rules and add myself as exception, that would be evil though

Each time there's a discussion of that nature, people (the readers) get judgmental about the content and the way it's presented. Discussions of all nature crop up. In that discussion, It's likely that I am the most informed. I try to direct the progress of the thread by putting up facts (which as any other member, I'm 100% entitled to).

Do again look up the word "moderator". A moderator is a person whose duty is to control the proceedings of an ongoing discussion, in attempts to put it on the right track, to meet its logical conclusion.

thats not a discussion, thats geographical fact. An open discussion on a video card doesnt need closure by a single person does it? And this is coming from a person of high authority on this forum?

I agree with Polaris 573, they should be able to have a few privileges. Now if Dan was letting his buddies do that that would be a different story. Why are we nit picking petty shit. This is a great forum. Maybe not perfect but what is. Some times I think people just need to lighten up and have alittle fun with this.

I'm not nit picking, I just always wanted to ask why Dan is allowed animated sigs and avatars. Have always wondered since I joined. Saw this discussion talking about mods so I thought I would take the opportunity.

It's clear you have a problem with authority in general, regardless of what the nature of authority is.

Facts / most likely explanations are what I deal with, as well. Saving you a few posts of "it looks more like this/that" and in the process putting the core discussion back on track, is very much part of a moderator's job.

Before each news post on upcoming products, I have thorough discussions with experts in the field, in the process learn more myself. The news is put though a lot of research from our side, even if we aren't the original authors of it. We try to give you, the reader a little more than something that's merely conveyed from another article from elsewhere on the internet.

Hey!

I'm just gunna jump in here and give my 2 cents worth.

First, moderators, don't be so defensive, this, I mean this thread, (IMHO), is supposed to be constructive criticism. When someone posts here, I'm going to assume they aren't attempting to personally attack any of the mods, but they might strongly disagree with the way things get done, and since its an opinion question, I don't think there is too much of a right and wrong...

Next, I've never found erocker to have a massive stick up his ass, and from my limited experience here at TPU, I've found him to be one of the more laid back mods (which is great). I will have to say, there are moderators that I find at times may match the above mentioned description. One example I would cite would be Binge's thread in the B/S/T forum. I don't recall which moderator this was, and I don't particularly care, but I do remember there being an issue with Binge saying something like "I reserve the right to flip out on anyone who repeatedly lowballs or backs out of a deal". Whichever moderator it was started arguing with Binge on what "lowballing" was, and that if he "flipped out" on anyone, that he would get an infraction or some other sort of punishment/scowling. I mean, I understand that "technically" flipping out on someone isn't a good thing, but come the hell on, that's just being overbearing. Everyone knows what lowballing is, and its obvious what Binge means by that entire statement/disclaimer. I'm not saying its the best thing to do/have done on Binges part, but whichever moderator acted upon that thread must have been in either a really bad mood, been pissed at Binge, or was just being a very anal person (that would be a negative quality in a moderator).

I also disagree with the whole different countries different humor thing. If someone can't take a joke that is acceptable in other places around the world, they really must have some issues with their sense of humor. You might not think its funny, but if your offended by gay people being married to hookers while both parties are hitting the bong, you've got to lighten up.

There are a few things wrong with TPU, but overall its the only forum I've seen that feels like a group of friends rather than some morons somewhere on the interwebz.

P.S. Post more hot deals, I always have to find my own

Hey, I've just noticed something, and I have one of three explanations (all of which could be wrong), now I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but I just noticed that:

Polaris573 and Thermopylae_480, were both born on February 3, 1986 and are both at Arkansas Fayetteville

So my explanations:
1, They are twins
2, They are the same person
3, Coincidence?

If you have times on your hands read the rest of the thread. It's mostly repetitive and there is always someone with some different opinion or view. As far as I'm aware nobody ever got into trouble for giving his opinion in a constructive way. Constructive doesn't have to mean everyone agrees on arguments or conclusions.

You are entitled to your feedback, as always. Regardless of your interpretation, discussions in this thread aren't confrontational in nature. More like observe, acknowledge or accuse, defend.

They're identical twins. Go through GN for their baby pictures.

I do agree with Dan's attitude/sentiment. But there is a problem. One respected moderator sets an example of what is "acceptable sarcasm or humour", and member(s) adopt similar language, but then ANOTHER moderator lavishes infractions.
