Building computer, need help.

Hi. This is my first time building a computer, and selecting out the parts. I want to know if I am good with my selections.

And last are my questions.
Is the memory too much? It's a triple channel and motherboard has four slots. That okay? I want a good gaming computer.
Is the motherboard any good? It didn't get the best rating.
Are the parts all going to work together?

I have seen youtube vids on how to build a computer, it seems pretty easy. The only hard part I think is connecting the wires (mainly Power supply). This would be my first time and I want to know if a nub like me would have any problems building one. I don't want to make a mistake.

Any suggestions? Concerns?

Sorry I am loading all this information on ya, but I want to get the best out of my budget. (about $1,300)

The Core I7 CPU is certainly the way to go if you have the budget and there is where the triple channel ram would come in nicely. This CPU would also require a different motherboard (the one suggested above is a great option). Your choice of video card is not the best for the money, the ATI Radeon HD 4850 or HD 4870 are better options and on the nVidia side you have the GTX 260, all those cards can be had for under $200. You'll be good to go with everything else for a decent gaming setup and if u so desire you can add a second graphics card if you upgrade to a higher resolution monitor in future.

How about I put together a shopping cart with a $1300 limit? Make a few adjustments and give u a kicking gaming box? Others can get in on the act as well. $1300 can get u a lot of kit these days

. The Graphics card i have is 160 and u can get a really decent one for around that price, better than the one you've listed. So tell us if you'd like some shopping cart suggestions.

Yes that would be great. All I want is the stuff to work together nicely.

Edit: When I was making mine, I tried for the 5 stars one, cause I don't want any problems with mine. I want a 22" monitor and a good mouse and keypad.

I see you went with the Core I7. I was hesitant because of the increase in price but what you have in the pic posted is just lovely

Also you can save on Vista 64 in many combos with hardware
More savings if u go for the 650 watt Corsair Power Supply.

Sometimes you gotta bite the bullet. There are certain brands that I trust to give me a good product everytime. Gigabyte and Asus are my personal faves.

the ballance of that system is off... the graphics are a bit underpowered for the cpu/mobo (but then again im a bit biased bc i think gfx>>>>>cpu when it comes to gaming)... i would also check on a AMD 940 and a 790GX board if you could - same performance, maybe for less $$

I was thinking that indeed but I get the impression that this is an Intel guy

. As for the graphics I would add the 50 or so for a gtx 260 or hd 4870 1gig. Another thing aren't the 4870's due for a price drop?

big time price drop... nobody knows when tho. I'm an intel guy too... but i jsut built a comparable AMD system for $1300 more (no case or speakers) with a bigger PSU and 2 4870's, If you're gonna go intel, go with an i7.

took me a while to notice the 2's next to the graphics and memory lol. Amazing what you can get for the money

what are you using this PC for?
i.e. if your budget is $1300, and you game, its better to go AMD... with dual AMD/NV cards (on a SLI board)... that will last you a alot longer than a core 2 q9550 build with one GFX. (or go the route of an intel dual core and clock the pants off of it a la Vincy boy.)

Ever considered an AMD Phenom II system? More bang for your buck... you can get better monitor, video card etc with that choice

stop right there! i7 is a better bang/buck ATM... at microcenter, i7 is priced at 230$! I got an exam tonight and tomorow, so I don't have time atm but I'll definitively make a thread for i7 systems with 800-1500$ budgets... so watch for it by thursday or maybe this weekend!
