Tricked Out TV Room '09

So here's some pics of what is currently distracting me from making my computers faster/better..

I got sick of looking at random cables and furniture in this room, so I decided to take on a project that has become one of epic proportion, for me anyways. Regrettably I don't have any pictures of the room all disorganized before I started.

The end result of this will be a fully custom, built-in entertainment center with computer desk. There will be pretty much no visible wires, cables, surge protectors, towers or AV components when all is said and done.

I started by ripping out the old green carpet.

Then I put down some hardwood

Painted a couple walls and finished the floor

Cut a few small holes to run wires/find studs.. which turned out to be a lot of BIG holes because mice had chewed the insulation off all the wires in 2 walls.. so I had to replace all the wiring.

Building the cabinets for the base and desk

Wire chase to hide cables from TV.

Top framed up

Drywall up and taped

Mud! I like the arches.

Got a coat of paint on it tonight.

Putting the doors on and adjusting the hinges before I paint them

Installed some lighting w/ 3-way touch switch

Lights on med

and lights on high

In-wall and in-ceiling speakers
new 46" 1080p TV [on the way]
DVD burner and USB hub built into desk
fully adjustable keyboard tray
louvered door from PC cabinet on left of desk
exhaust fans for main cabinet [vents out the top, behind the arch]
exhaust fan for back of PC cabinet
IR repeater so you can control anything that is in the cabinet with the doors closed.

You do everything yourself? If so, VERY impressive work. I love it. I SUCK at drywall/tape.

Yeah did it all myself.. and I am not really good at mudding and taping.. but I cheated and glued the corners on and also used 2 coats of durabond + 2 coats of regular joint compound + lots of sanding...

Very nice work.I like the way the arches turned out, well finished off.

Will look excellent when you get the rest of the equipment installed.

I wish I had your skills to finish my attic off like this...I am in the middle of flooring it but suck at plastering so will just nail some boards up.

Keep up the good work and be sure to post pics of the end result.

Wow I'm impressed. I'd love to mod my basement to a TV/Theater but I dont have guts to do what you do. Great Job!

Ah nice, I've heard good things about other screens from that line up, though I haven't seen anything on A550 itself.

Great work man, looking nice. The 550 is a solid TV, one of the best LCDs imo (unless you like 120hz, I don't but many do, in that case jump up to the 630). I like the PN550 better though (plasma), much better color and that would be easy to keep dark (to avoid reflection). Anyway great work so far.

I like the 120Hz, but I don't like the red ToC and I don't like the price.. probably in a few years.. when 120Hz and LED backlights are affordable...

I'm thinking of building computers into similar type units or custom desks/workstations... I live in Maine though.. so I'm prolly screwed for customers..
I can't even sell custom PCs much around here...
