I think google is going to be sued after the pirate bays case is done its almost inevitable, if the piratebay fully loses its case there is nothing to stop google from being sued since all the pirate bay did was index content, google does the same thing but in a different way, what do you all think.

I am fairly confident that this is why the piratebay was sued, in order to get support to sue real, larger compainies.

uhhh no I dont think that they would even go after google. It seems if thats the case they mid as well just go after the internet as a whole.

How cynical of you... but true.

The prosecutors knew there was no money to be had from Pirate Bay. But also that an expensive and legal precedent setting defence couldnt be afforded. And now the precedent is set in their favour, they can go after them that got cash.

nah i couldn't see them sueing google, cause then yahoo, ask.com. i couldn't see it happening especially when articles use key words in a search so their article will show up in a google, yahoo, ask, or w/e search.

Google has something TPB didn't: good lawyers. KainXS makes a good point: a lawsuit against Google could use TPB as a reference and that could sway the judgement in the filers' direction. At the same time, I don't think TPB was a monumental take down so it wouldn't carry enough weight to sway the judgement. The legality of the Internet hasn't turned into the wild west quite yet but I suspect it will within 10 years as more and more parties claim to "own" it.

We can't forget that the judgement against TPB was made in Sweden. A Swedish lawsuit doesn't hold much water in the USA (or other countries). Sweden might not have Google much longer though. :x

honestly taking down google would definitely do more harm than good. i use that site for school research just on quick definitions, information on a world war II general, just random ass stuff everyday. I've only used it a couple times for torrents and it's just to find trackers to speed up my download lol, otherwise completely academic reason or just curiosity is why i use it. And i'm sure the populous in general puts it to good use for learning reasons not pirating ones.
