Tempted to go h2o

Soooo basically I'm a complete noob with water cooling. I have thought about it in the past but couldn't pull the trigger.

If I were to persue this... where would I begin? Whats a good easy to set up system thats not complete trash and would break? Do 775 and 1366 sockets differ, so if I get a system now, and upgraded later, would I need to swap out blocks? Anyways, any information is appreciated!

Im sorry to say but WC does not impress me, from a gamers standpoint, Watercooling is messy, expensive and takes great care and dedication to maintain, if your lazy like me a simple GOOD aircooler will more then suffice even when overclocking, and add that custom waterloops barely shave off a few degrees compared to some of the best aircoolers, hell even at times air coolers will win.

To me Watercooling is more for the extreme people who love to bench and overclock the snot out of any hardware.

Right now im using a Sythe Mugen II and in my HAF 932 case and my Core i7 920 clocked to 3.3Ghz sits at comfortable 40C idle and 47C load, mind you this using a Core i7 which is reputed for being a very hot processor, total cost to me? I paid $30 for it.

agreed, although this is a nice alternitive to watercooling http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_pa...-intel_bp.html

Liquid Cooling is about efficiency it is far from messy and you only need to keep a eye on your loop once a month when you do monthly maintenance and every six months clean and change coolant.

this is a really good custom kit much better than commercial kits like the Thermaltake Bigwater, Zalman Reserator, Swiftech H20 Series, etc. and no you don't need to swap blocks only the retention plate for the CPU block and thats if you change to AM2 or 1366 the kit comes with a 775, 1366 and AM2 retention kit.

It's not so much that I want extremely low temps(although that is a plus) its more of I want the experience. I haven't touched my computer except cosmetically since I built it almost a year ago and I can't help but just wanting to do something to it!

Thanks for the opinions though.

if you plan to buy a CPU waterblock for your lga775 cpu you can still use it when you decide to upgrade to an i7 system.. you'll only need to buy new mounting kit (lga 1366) for that block to work with an i7 board (still not all the lga775 blocks out there offers mounting kit for the i7 platform).. better to know the pros and cons of water cooling before you decide to go for it
yeah water cooling does take a lot of time and effort, but hey im loving it..

already mentioned that in my post icon.

oh yeah remember when I said you only need to check on your loop on your monthly maintenance well you will probably be paranoid the first week I had a nightmare that my pump shorted overvolted causing pressure to build up until the tubing on my block came off and shot coolant all over my window LOL you will get used to it.

hah thats gonna suck

If I were to get a system like the one you were mentioning, would I be able to add a gfx card to the loop if I choose or would that be too much for the pump?

yes you can add. I personally would only add a GPU water block like the Swiftech MCW60 series if you volt mod your video card which would breathe new life into it. that kit uses a t-line so if you want a reservoir you will have to buy one. all you need for that kit is a jug of distilled water and your set.

I've personally found that water cooling my CPU is pointless due to the fact I run it at 4GHz and a good air cooler would work with no problems. Which is what I'm going to do when I upgrade to i7. However I'm going to still water cool my 4870x2, I have found this to be a necessity and just can not bring my self to ever air cooling a GPU again, due to the fact my x2 idles at 30c and doesn't go over 60 under load. Air cooling, it hits 90c+ with no problems and can be used as a wind tunnel for boeing.

me too.. talk about leak disasters, my rig leaked several times before Ive completely finished my leak testing.. & now im redoing my loop again darn!, water cooling is like drugs its so addicting LOL

I have never had a leak or problem I have been using liquid cooling since 2002 and currently have 2 loops in 2 computers. I could never envision my self using a Cooler Master V10, heatsinks are getting ridiculous in size and are only going to get bigger as Intel and AMD continue to battle, the more aluminum fins you have the more wattage you can dissipate which translates into a bigger heatsink, noiser fans and clearance problems.

yeah and heatsink fans are getting bigger and heavy.. i just don't fancy big & heavy heatsink fans and just couldn't imagine myself using a hsf bigger & heavier than CM V10..

Im just going to give my two cents on this.

I have made mistakes and bought components that just dont cut it and have rebuild my water loop numerous times. However, do it right the first time and you never have to touch it again. Yes there is simple maintainance like flushing your coolant every six months etc. But that is nothing if you think about it. You can invest a few bucks more in drain valves to make that process painless .

Socket 775 blocks and Socket 1366 blocks only differ in mounting hardware. Most blocks can be used on both sockets with the adequate mounting hardware.

Just remember, do it right the first time, do it only once. I have never had any problems with water cooling, I am just crazy and tear down my loop for fun to try and find a better way to route it and make it look better, but that is not necessary. The only one time I had a leak was my fault and I left a fitting a bit loose. But then again, don't blame water cooling for that.

Watercooling is quite simple and is not messy or painful at all. As a matter of fact, it was one of the easiest upgrades I ever did...

my first loop was terrible. used a grout bucket for a reservoir, modified car radiator and a external fish tank pump until I was able to get a swiftech mcp600 lol

Ive experienced leaks about three times, but just my mistake left the barbs a bit loose but never looked water cooling as pain in the ass.. water cooling is easy just be careful though, and for me it's really worth it

yes, mistakes like that are the only possibility of something going wrong. Just get the adequate components and there is nothing to worry about

oh hell I don't remember what I ate for dinner last night I remember it was hot definitely better than a heatsink but because some "O.G" like me used to use external fish pumps they got really hot so hot they would effect the coolant. my case was great for it though it was a super tower they don't really make them anymore it had to be at least a foot maybe more taller than the Thermaltake SwordM had 2x 80mm intake and 2x 80mm exhaust with perforated holes on the bottom side panel.

with high overclock water cool will useful , but with with extreme overclock water cool will be not effective maybe with some kinds of liquid not water so it will be expensive
also about the block 775 it is different not set at 1366

my old loop? no. I don't have a camera even if I did the case is buried in my closet and disgusting. I have been thinking about modding it though all it really needs is a vinegar bath, sand blasted, paint and polish. why would I do this? because they don't make cases like they used to lol

could do some major mods to it.
