You'd definately want to buy a new PSU, OEM ones are usually crap and a 300 watt one probably wouldn't supply enough power.
9600 GSO needs 400 watt PSU minimum, according to nVidia's website.
And also, you'd probably be better off with this card if you don't intend on overclocking:

It costs less, comes pre-overclocked, is a good brand name, and should perform just as well as a 9600 GSO if not better. (Unless I'm wrong, in which case someone can correct me.

) Either way, you'll need a new PSU.

Yeah STTC error_404 is giving a good opinion about the BFG card. You should realize that you must need a PSU.

And error the quotation you mentioned if I am not wrong it is about u2konline.

i would get a new psu because the amperage wont be enuf to supply a half decent modern card

you wont get much bottleneck with a 9600gso and a pentium D dual core

its an alright card

Something else you can consider is the Green Edition GF9600! It needs 40% less power so maybe your PSU will be able to handle it!

Acording to TPU Rewiews the 4770 needs 20W more (idle) 5W (load) than the normal 9600GT! So the Green edition will me much better in terms of power consuption!

+1, very solid psu. I have one in my friends rig and it's powering an OC'd AMD 710 and HD 4670 very well

the PSU Calqs are only guidelines (not very accurate) your PS is plenty for a 9600. There is room in the case or the 9600
(but get the 9600GT)

Buy the ATI 4770, its probably the fastest GPU within the budget price range.

you need a 6-pin power connector, open up your case and check that your PSU has that. If it doesn't do not panic you can use a converter cable for $5

Edit:

Below is a converter cable, they usually come with the video card, but they can be bought for a few $
