Gainward To End Partnership with AMD/ATI

Less than a year ago, Palit-owned Gainward, a premium graphics card manufacturer, signed a contract with AMD/ATI and began to manufacture graphic accelerators with AMD/ATI Radeon chips. However, it now seems that Gainward will end its relationship with AMD/ATI and return to being an NVIDIA-only board partner. This is further backed by the fact that Gainward has not released any Radeon HD 4890 or HD 4770 cards and apparently it has already notified some distributors about ending its AMD/ATI line-up.

They apparently weren't Popular Enough, Just like How Gainward stopped shipping cards to the US few years ago, that or NV was forcing their hand.

How many new markets did they try though, I don't recall seeing any ATI Gainward products in the US. I might have missed a few though.

I can't say I'll miss them! I had two 4870 GSs that had to be replaced due to... blowing up with no apparent reason other than playing a graphic intense game for more than 3 hours. Oh yeah, there's also a fan bug, so the fan won't spin up in all 3d games so I have to manually set it before each session...
I can't remember where, but I've seen data somewhere about defect rates in graphics cards and Gainward was the second worse after Gigabyte in the AMD segment or something similar.
So yeah, I won't miss them...

Gainward = Palit in the US, Palit is the parent company.

I really doubt Gainward and Gigabyte are in the top with defect rates , gainward releases mostly premium cards with better cooling and gigabyte brags about using better materials , give the proof or is a lie.
I would see among the worst cards brands like galaxy, force 3d.
Gainward is a big loss , GS models were among the best and not at all expensive.

Damn, I love my palit HD4850, if I'm going to buy the HD58XX series of cards I'll have to find someone else selling ridiculously cheap cards with awesome coolers on.

More Bad News

I just done a quick check for Gainware and Palit and I don't see any of their products on major vendor sites any more. I found a few on bottom end retailers, a few overstock sites, but none of the major retailers (newegg, Tigerdirect, ZipZoomFly).

I am not sure about EU, but it would seem that they are pulling out of the US market all together. I hope this is not a precursor to them going out of business. I have never used their products, but I did use a one in a custom build for a friend and his Palit 4850 runs great.

That could be one 'good' thing we as consumers get out of this, we may find some cheap Gainward cards. I'd love to be able to pick up another 1GB 4870 for £120 - that's pretty freaking sweet.
