Galaxy shows 9800 GT with mini-HDMI connector

We saw an interesting graphics card at Galaxy today. Their latest
9800 GT uses a mini-HDMI connector instead of a normal sized one.

This gives Galaxy the freedom to put dual-DVI outputs on the card, instead of the DVI+Analog most other manufacturers use for space reasons. Should you plan to use a fullsize HDMI connector, an adapter is included with the accessories. Such a concept could be used on all other HDMI cards of course, it seems to me that Galaxy is testing the market with this 9800 GT design.

Another cool idea is this GTX 285 that uses a passive heatsink on the card itself. Actual airflow is provided by a second card that uses a PCI-Express X1 connector.

Last but not least, we spotted this single GTX 295 reference design. According to NVIDIA there is no set NDA date, board partners are free to sell cards any time they receive stock of production boards.

Argh, I want one. I've been searching for a smaller form factor 8800GT/9800GT. They did it with the 9600GT, so it should be possible...

typo - you forgot PCB after single. you just call it a "single reference"

Mini HDMI is good news, cause now EEEPC's and netbooks will start coming with it

Video cards should only need one DVI port, and one HDMI port (with audio, which ATI and both do in one way or another)

HDMI port can use an adaptor to DVI
DVI port can use adaptor to HDMI, or VGA.

Three options available, two of which (the more modern two) allow you to dual screen.

They really need to ditch the old school analogue TV ports, which this wonderful card has finally done.

Mini-HDMI..........interesting

I take it that it will be as fast as a standard sized one (considering it is digital)

CPU mag just did a review on a Powercolor 4830 that had Dual DVI an S-Video and an HDMI connector on one card, the HDMI was in the same spot, kind of amazing.

i kind of agree, HDMI was small enough as it is. once they ditch DVI ports for HDMI, we could fit so many monitors on the one card.

Nice, good way to save room for the extra DVI connector, kudos to Galaxy's design team

I didn't even know Mini-HDMI existed until I got a Sony HDR-XR500V camcorder, it had the HDMI logo so I tried to connect it to my TV directly via its side HDMI port, to my surprise the standard cable didn't even fit, I was so dissapointed as I found Mini-HDMI to HDMI cables cost around $40!

By doing a little googling I found this neat Mini-HDMI to HDMI connector on ebay for less than $6 with free shipping, I said, what the hell and gave it a try and it works flawlessly with all my existing HDMI 1.3 cables!

The thing is this connector will help portable devices like cell phones, portable music/video players and netbooks display HD content directly to any HDTV! Heck, it's even allowing neat designs like the one on this card
