Samsung Introduces Super Slim XL2370 LED Monitor

Samsung Electronics, the number one worldwide brand for LCD displays, today announced the Samsung XL2370, a new LED monitor featuring cutting-edge technology and a “finger-slim” design. The Samsung XL2370 is Samsung’s highest performance display and the first to incorporate LED technology, giving the model a super-slim profile and significant energy-saving benefits.

The crystal-like bezel frame of Samsung XL2370 with Touch of Color (ToC) design reduces the reflection of light and glare. The glossy stand offers a polished design, while the clear, crystal-like acrylic neck gives the illusion the monitor is floating.

Samsung XL2370 offers a suite of eco-conscious features including reduced energy consumption, requiring about 40% less power to operate compared with typical monitors of a similar size. In addition, the product does not contain toxic-materials such as halogen or mercury by adopting a LED backlight unit. The ToC™ manufacturing process eliminates harmful paints and sprays, increasing the monitor’ recyclability. The slim profile also dramatically reduces transportation costs and requirements for a smaller carbon footprint.

Samsung XL2370 also delivers the highest level of functionality. The monitor offers a mega dynamic contrast ratio (5M:1), delivering deep, rich colors, while its 2ms (GTG) video response time minimizes blurring when watching sports and fast-moving gameplay. The XL2370 also offers Full HD 1080p resolution (1920x1080) for optimized viewing of HD content and consumers can fully enjoy fantastically crisp images.

“We expect the XL2370 will open a new era of the LED monitor market,” said JaeYoung Lew of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Division. “Samsung will pave the way in the LED monitor market with beautiful design and superb functionality, while responding to the market needs for eco-friendly technology.”

The product will be available in Korea in mid July, and ready to be shipped to European countries and other parts of the world from August.

Features:
  • Mega DCR
  • Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution
  • Fast 2ms (GTG) video response
  • Reduced power consumption
  • Touch of Color (ToC) technology
  • VOC-free crystal-like bezel frame to help reduce glare
  • Starlight Touch Controls
  • Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution
  • Fast 2ms (GTG) video response

It has twice the features?

Only uses 40% less power to operate? I was under the impression that LED technology would decrease the power usage WAY more dramatically then that

Any idea of price?

why isnt there a side on shot, showing how thin it is?

Interesting tho, they say its "LED" - i wonder if they mean OLED? (5M:1 is not possible on LED backlit LCD's, afaik)

Nope. Just a LED backlight. Says it in the text there.

I'm guessing this is yet another Tn panel tho. WHen will they bring us IPS or PVA panels on the cheap?

my current samsung LCD already uses an LED backlight. you can kinda tell when they're LED because they go from being 3:000 to 1 contrast upto 30:000 to 1, that kinda deal.

This ones differences seem to be 5 MILLION to one contrast (wtf?) and thinner.

New screens for business, where are they?

I find it a shame that EVERY new TFT is now designed for the "consumer entertainment" sector. What happened to the productivity sector? I really want "1600 in the y" so that I can read a full page of PDF text without having to scroll and zoom.

I spend 90% of my time in front of a PC doing "productivity" and only 10% doing "footle". My dollar is in the hi-res monitor segment. Let's see some new screens!

I honestly cant believe they are able to get away with calling these LED screens, does my nut.

Theyve just wipped out the CCFL from an LCD, bunged in an LED strip light and screamed, I has made an LED TV.

Not on, making out its the next big thing and its still an LCD. I want true LED panels please Samsung.

I've seen low response TN panels used in very nice ASUS displays. It's amazing how the same kind of panel can have such a number of variations in quality.

LED backlit TN panels look great. its a huge step up over old TN panels. i've been trying to tell people this for ages, but theres a certain crowd who just wont touch it unless its IPS.

I'm currently using this monitor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236047 and it's a great monitor. I agree, I do not see anything drastically inferior about it's picture quality.

IMHO the main advantage switching from CCFL to W-LED are the black depth levels. Letting aside the RGB-LED technology wich has it's own advantages, there are anymore better aspects like the viewing angles for example?

TN panels use the same flawed tech, everyone of them. Even the good ones, they still inherit the color dithering problems (Hi-FRC panels, too) and bad viewing angles. But for movies&games they are quite OK.

There isn't a standard way to measure Dynamic Contrast Ratio, so companies can basically claim whatever they want. What the main difference is though is Static Contrast Ratio.
