TPU Peripherals Club

Welcome to the TPU Peripheral Club!

This is a home for everyone who loves their keyboards, pointers, tablets, and gaming pads almost more than their
rigs. Have you ever thought of how much your simple external devices really change the whole experience of
computing? If you think about it I'm sure you'll find a home here to share information, learn, and socialize.

Membership to this prestigious institution is pretty easy, but it is necessary! PM me with a list of peripherals
that looks something like this.

Quote:
BiNGE|ABS M1, Filco FKBN87M/EB, Saitek II Eclipse|Razor Lychesis|(any game pads/joysticks/other controllers|Heatset: Some plantronics, Wants: Wacom Intuos 4
The above format can be written in whatever order you'd like with extra fields like Gaming Pads or Tablets.
Basically if I have not thought of a peripheral and you want to show it with pride, then I would like to know about it!

As an afterthought I'd really like to see members review their own stuff for the benefit of other club members and TPUers
in general. This is not mandatory, but if you write a review of any peripheral I will make sure to link it to your
member tag here on the front page for easy reference. Happy typing folks

Love my Lycosa for gaming, it performs great though it's prone to getting beat-up easily. Shiny doesn't look very shiny after a few months. I really like my Vidabox keyboard for lounging around while I type/surf/etc. I did a review on the Vidabox here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/VidaBox/ACCRFKBLTB . It's kind of like a big comfy controller for your PC.

Ooooo... I feel this Forum kinda neglects peripherals...

MoonPig | Saitek Cyborg | Razer Diamondback - Pearlescent | Wants: Graphics Tablet

I want a graphics tablet to try, just curious as to how good they are...

This Cyborg is amazing, awesome keyboard. Much better than my old EclipseII. And this Razer is really responsive. Sexy too

Oh, to give a very short review on the Revoltec Lightboard XL 2:
Good points
It glows when you press the button. Ooh, blue glowy glowy... OH WAIT THE CCFL DIED TOO

Bad points
It dies when you splash it with distilled water while making a screwup in draining your loop.
The wrist end is way too high for comfort, or too short to rest your hands on decently. And I have small hands.

I just looked at that cyborg on a shop. Are all key fields illuminated differently or can you set all fields to just one color?

My friend owns a Das! I am infinitely jealous of the sweet sweet feel/sound of that keyboard. It really is something wonderful, but if I had a choice I would rather get a filco because it has REAL N-Key rollover.

will do, i may do a guide on how to get compatible usb IR receivers - took me 4 days to find one in the UK that'll work with media centre and any MCE compatible remotes, and that was from ebay - it seems there are no decent (read: non-crappy) sets from uk etailers which is fully MCE compatible - all the ones i found "work" but look like a keyboard to vista and so makes it hard to properly map a harmony remote to.

**edit**
i'm writing the IR receiver guide now, will link when it's up in a bit...

Yikes D: I wonder if anyone here has experience using IR remotes and their PC. If not you'll open a lot of eyes with a little guide like that.

Mechanical Keyboards and YOU!

Back in a time known as the 1980s, keyboards were powerful artifacts which contained great power. These powers were the durability of a possible 20 million or more keystrokes per key, dual plastic injected keycaps so the lettering never wore off, true N-Key Rollover, and substancial weight so as to not move around the desk while typing heavily. Then something changed... the industry changed. Mainstream peripheral production ushered in an era of crappy keyboards the equivalent of carnival prizes. Cheap, plastic, and short lived these keyboards commonly furnish our homes. Some might ask: what happened to the legendary keyboards of old? The answer is that they're still around! Even better there are a few companies that have taken up the task in continuing production of mechanical key switch keyboards. I own two of these keyboards personally and the difference between mechanical switch and rubber dome membrane is night and day. Responsiveness to typing is hightened by most mechanical switches having tactile feedback and a "clicking" noise that is often associated with older keyboards. Believe it or not there was once a membrane technology that had fantastic qualities in durability, but these keyboards are known to have something called Buckling Spring key switches. They are membrane keys, but there is a spring mechanism that drives the action to the membrane instead of your finger driving the action. This extends the life of the switch... yadda yadda. There will be a review of my ABS M1 and Filco FKBM87M/EB shortly. Stay tuned

This isn't a huge issue guys but I just want you to know anything that is not technically a peripheral I will ignore. Please don't take offense, but the club is called TPU Peripherals Club, and not TPU's Obscure Wishlist Club.
