NVIDIA Releases Own SLI Profile Patch

Maybe annoyed by EVGA, NVIDIA today released their own SLI profile patch, which primary objective is to accelerate a number of games when ran on systems with multiple NVIDIA video cards. Version one of the NVIDIA SLI profile patch should be used with version 186.18 display driver. It adds support for Anno 1404 (Dawn of Discovery) and ARMA II. The patch works under Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, both 32-bit and 64-bit.

May I ask WHY they can't just improve it with drivers?

because nvidia have been screwing up a bit lately with their drivers. this also works well for people who dont want to update their drivers - i'd be happy to stick with working drivers and jsut update crossfire profiles.

I find this need for profiles quite awkward ever since. Why cant they just make a unified api in developing an app that would just use multi gpus the way a certain app uses multiple processors natively.. you wont see intel/amd releasing "profiles" for multiple processors.

Actually, no. That was a fix for a design characteristic of AMD's dual core that XP and earlier had no code for. It was a fix for older games that did not run properly on AMD dual cores.

SLI profiles are a fix to drivers. The AMD optimizer was an overall fix for the way the cpu ran. Not quite the same.

but similar enough. Bjorn_Of_Iceland said that nothing like this had been released for CPU's, and i was pointing out that something similar had been.

Similar in a way, I guess, but the DCO didnt allow games that only used a single core/thread to suddenly use multiple cores/threads.

Well actually come to think of it, these games were already capable of utilizing multi gpu in a driver level.. forcing alternate or split frame rendering on nvcp. only it was sluggish on some titles (Empire total war for instance.. driver update made it use single card on the game profile tab). Im thinking this profiles are just simple switches to use AFR, SFR, or single card for a certain title.

Finally SLI support for ARMA2, and it works. Before the patch Arma2 used only one card, now both are utilized giving much better performance in the game... Me like.

So thank you NVidia, thx a bunch!

You better check the load scaling, sometimes, nvidia disable SLi for certain games (Empire Total Wars) because some games run faster with single GPU.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the only reason that a game would run better on a single card be because of buggy SLI/xfire drivers? hence this SLI patch would then make the game run as it should utilizing 2+ GPU's increasing performance over 1 GPU like haze stated it did for him.
