where's the english moderator you guys all get up late and go to bed early (timezones people )i looked for 1 the other night and couldn't find 1 at all yes mods do a good job here but people need to remember they're only human , everyone loses the plot sometimes and needs to calm down that's why we have super mods , although i'm wondering how that works over at gn.net oh and we need some tidier up'ers as i wanted some advice on modem testing software and struggled to find any amidst all the endless waffle of who's graphics cards better than who's another idea thats probably lost under the piles of other ideas is things like notices, i beleive they would be noticed more if they where slightly bigger and maybe a different colour to stand out from the rest other than that it's great oh and for http://generalnonsense.net/index.php it's great

GN.net has super moderators and admins. and w1zzard.
Eventually they'll sort out whos a mod of what, but for now it seems to be working fine.

sorry i meant over here at tech powerup
do you have a huge difference in time to the uk? as someone was arguing or to me it seemed like arguing and i wanted to say to you or another mod to give them a verbal warning but litteraly couldn't find anyone i don't like people arguing if i wanted to see that i'd sit outside the local bar at kickout time, anyway the matter was resolved eventually and the person who i beleived it was directed at wasn't bothered

click the report button, of course. whichever mod gets up first will sort it out.
We have mods scattered all over the globe, and sleeping at odd hours (its almost 3am here)

i'm having problems with the new "customize" button on the TPU front page - i enabled everything (set all dropdowns to yes, left other dropdowns the same) and i had 2 problems:
1. The primary frame had hidden content which i had to scroll down in the frame to see, this included the customize options which i needed to access to change the settings back to default. 2. All the reviews and news vanished - even though i had not set anything to not show in the options (i think it set to show only 1 day's content the first time i went to change the settings). Also when did the button appear? i've only just noticed it. **edit** i think i found the problem - if i set to show 1 day's reviews all content in the new page vanishes if there is no news for today and so the frame resizes to have the bottom just below the customize button, making it scrollable but broken if there is no content. i guess you could fix it by having blank content generated if no news is available for today, or to show yesterday's news if there is nothing for today. screenie of the bug:

If you are putting your content into sections labelled by day you could have the latest day's content under a "today" content section which would change to the actual date of the content once a new "today" section was created - this would keep the existing code for filtering beyond the past 24 hours but would prevent the blank page issue if there was no content from today.

i can't think of anything else i'd add to that feature, though i do have a couple of things i wouldn't mind having the option for:
-the option to remove the bookmark hover-over things which let me link news articles to other sites - i can see how it would be useful to some people but it really bugged me as it could sometimes bug and remain open which got in the way of the article intro - not desperately needing that feature (especially since i just blocked the content from loading on my pc's). -the other thing i wouldn't mind seeing is an auto-reload on the recent forum posts section- the best way would be to javascript it to just reload that pane if you did implement it, but you could choose a reload frequency like 5 mins, 10 mins etc. to be honest though those aren't critical things and can be solved by some client-side scripting. I guess that's what i like about the TPU homepage though - i can't really think of much i'd change/add. oh, what is the "Popularity Threshold for Today's Reviews" setting for? does it hide reviews from external sites with the tpu popularity ranking thing i've noticed when browsing the review database or something else?

it shows only reviews that received the most x percent clicks that day. if you have a suggestion for better wording let me know.

human error: the firefox not updating bug is related to kaspersky, most likely. quit kaspersky and restart firefox, and the update will work. Then restart kaspersky, and all is well.
