Unfortunately, yes, you can get banned from TPU. Banned means just that.

Here are the rules just in case you have any other questions.

PS: It's also a big "no-no" to ask why another member got banned.

My feelings on that is none of my bussiness why any user gets an infraction or banned.

Correct me if im wrong but is this the basis for a TPU member to get banned?

Behavior that is inappropriate/should be reported

Insulting other forum members (calling someone makes you look stupid anyways)
Racist, hateful, and otherwise demeaning comments will not be tolerated; whether meant as a joke or not.
"Trolling"

Posting useless/wrong information in response to a serious topic.
Non-constructive criticism of a person's English
Posting "FUD" (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt), especially if the poster is trying to pass it off as legitimate news.
Posting a lot of tech news articles in the forums. One or two things when the newsposters are all on vacation is nice, but in general, please leave the newsposting to the news posters. It's their job.
Post whoring (posting nonsense for the pure joy of it, otherwise known as spamming or thread-crapping).

I've found that doesn't really happen around here, as long as you make your arument in a civil way. Start flaming, trolling, or being rude and that is totally different...

It used to be pretty easy to get Banned, especially with Zek, he was known for giving out half day bans as opposed to infractions. You used to be more likely to get banned than get infactions.

However, now the mods use the infaction system a lot more efficiently, so bannings have gone to a minimum. You really have to push the rules to get banned. Either repeated blatent violations of the rules, or break one of the major rules like posting something illegal or spamming the forums.

Usually if you're a decent member, the worst you will have to worry about is an infraction.

Not all infractions are equal. Generally, you will receive warnings and minor infractions first, and if the bahavior does not stop, then you run the risk of being banned. However, there are situations that call for immediate ban. Generally, you really have to TRY to get banned.

I find a member that posted a new thread but got banned (he`s rude maybe) does it mean that we as members just dont bother to respond to his/her thread? do we get an infraction also while posting to a banned member`s thread?

Best to not respond to trolls. If you respond and become part of the problem, you could get an infraction.

This is true for a specific type of forum. I can name one.. and some of the peepz on TPU have run into it... just lurk for a few days on any forum and that will give you the idea if you would be welcome there...

The leading cause for people being banned, is that they are douchebags or spambots.

the next most common would be people who get very aggressive when they get infractions or warnings - you know, i tell someone to stop double posting, they PM me telling me that i cant tell them what to do (when i can) and i give them a warning or infraction for it.

They then abuse me (or the relevant moderator) over it, leading to another infraction - and it all adds up to a ban.

Quite often we delete posts too when we ban someone - if they called you a F***head and they got an infraction for it, you'd hardly want that post left there as it just encourages people to fight back - earning THEM infractions too.

Title of the most awesome mod in the world is already taken by me. you cant have it :P

every moderator has a banstick, and a spamhammer.

its all points-based, with the infraction system - we can give you one point for being argumentative, we can give you 25 (ban) for advertising WoW gold.
