I'd go for that motherboard if it had a full 16x slot.

Remember that it's PCI-Express 2.0, so its bandwidth is equal to that of a PCI-Express 1.1 x16 slot.

Yes, but today's cards need all they can get. And the ability to choose between between 16x/0x and 8x/8x is a plus.

I'm disappointed they didn't have it switch. I don't think I agree with you on today's cards needing all they can get, though. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think most single GPU cards out right now aren't bottlenecked by PCI-E 2.0 8x slots.

I'm a little confused by your statement. With a single card in the main PCI-E slot will operate at the full 16x speed, it is only when the 2nd PCI-E slot is in use will the first drop down to 8x.

Not with this board, unfortunately. They both run at 8x no matter what slots are populated. One of the few downfalls of this board. They didn't bother including a switch, so they wired both 8x 2.0 electronically.
Think about it this way. If a GTX 295 is running in a single x16 2.0 slot, then ultimately, each GPU (aka a GTX 275) gets 8x 2.0. Same with a 4870x2. This board shouldn't bottleneck any single GPU cards.

Wow. That's a big surprise, especially coming from DFI.

Hey, the socket 775 "SLI" board runs x16 and x2, no matter what. They explicitly state on a sticker covering the second slot that it is NOT for SLI, and only for a second card allowing for more monitors.

1 of the 2 kits of PNY XLR8 pending. If you're interested in both, you will be considered first.
Remember that combo discounts are available with anything that I'm selling, not just in this thread!
