remember this fits. if the mobo only supports am2+ not am3, it means the only cpus with unlocked multi that will work are 9950 125w edition, 9850, Phenom II 940, Athlon x2 7750 and 7850.
the phenoms II 550, 720, 955 and 965 wont work

Only if it clocks good and hasn't been pushed above 1.5V ever... most OC'rs of the BEs just ramp voltage from the git-go... which is bad imho... just check those key things... if its been over 1.5V I would pass it up.
(its why I am doing 3,402Mhz @ 1.35V on my 920, 1.325V is ALMOST stable) |

Ah Fit I see you got the board lol...
I know for a fact it will run the Phenom I's; I did it a little while ago. Is everything going ok with it so far? I was using it as my main rig until Friday the 14. Is the...other end...on it's way? I haven't been home yet. |

yes... the board is working great and its somewhat fun to play with. i had one of these about 2 and a half years ago with a x2 5200. someone found a guy on asus forums thats running a 940be on this board with the newest bios so i think i may give it a try. |

Ok cool. Glad to hear everything is working out for you. Like I said, I haven't been home yet so for all I know it could be there.

for $75 you can get the 720 already lapped and try it out and see if it works, if it doesnt then sell it and get the 940 for $100

@assassin48: the 720 wont work on his board, thats why i said him to get a 940 which is am2+ and thus, it will work.

@fit
Is your board the M2N-SLI or M2N32-SLI? |

That's also using the M2N32 board. Not sure if it makes a big difference from the M2N or not. I think he was asking about the X3 to see if it would unlock to X4 because it would be a cheaper buy.

i doubt it would unlock because you need the sb 710 or 750 and ACC

That's what several people have been saying.....I was just adding by saying that's the only reason why I think he wanted to know about the 720, and since it won't unlock...he won't want it.

Even at that I'm pretty sure the 720 is a no go on his board anyways. Fit, get the 940!

X3 720 will work. It's AM2+ or AM3, I've used it on both boards.

If the board has AM2+ support for B2 Phenom's, it will support any AM3 CPU. Get a 720, or even a 955.. It will work. I had my 720 running on a GeForce 6150 board awhile ago.

You asking about the 940? If so, then I'd say yes considering it's $189 on newegg and currently sold out.
