MSI Offers 55% Launch-Day Discount on P55 Motherboards for UK

On the launch day of Intel's socket LGA-1156 platform, when some of the first Intel Core i5, Core i7 "Lynnfield" hit stores along with compatible motherboards, MSI is planning a massive 55% discount on two of its top motherboards based on the supportive Intel P55 chipset. Included in the sale will be the high-end MSI P55-GD80 and upper-mid range P55-GD65.

Carrying an original MSRP of £139.99, the P55-GD65 can be had for as little as £63, while the P55-GD80 with its MSRP of £189 for a mere £85.5. The sale will run only on launch day, which is expected to be on this September 8. Some of the participating retailers include SCAN, Ebuyer, CCL and OverclockersUK. Purchases will be limited to one unit per customer.

Wow, super clean board. Not a lot of components making things look crowded. Now if only MSI knew how to tune their bios's for overclocking like Asus

I love MSI's new looks on their motherboards. The grey PCB really shows the benchmark expectations.

55% discount?, sounds like intel is not playing fair with AMD, just like when intel bought OEMs to not sell AMD parts, even when AMD parts owned Intel Parts in 2003

Pricing your goods below the cost of the competition's goods is hardly playing unfair - that's business. My guess is this move is trying to get MSI a better name/reputation by getting a lot of sales with the very early adopters, shows MSI must be confident in the quality of their launch boards...

Or in a bid to get rid of a lot of bad/poor motherboards they drop the price to something customers will find hard to refuse?

Likewise, that is a mighty tempting offer

Maybe mount it on the wall or something as some nerdy art piece, till it's ready to use

I'd buy that board pronto if it is actually purchasable... that board is going to be much more than $108 when its released.

Looks like MSI are going with the black & blue look that, if I'm not mistaken, started with the 790FX-GD70 and is part of the reason that I bought it. Looks like I'll be sticking with MSI, I hate the ASUS pricing to features ratio + the whole bandwagon-ing that's happening w/ the RoG.
(Please Note which I said first, before you start jumping on me for "only" running away because of the RoG bandwagon.)

Don't just do a straight conversion from £ to $ - everything in the UK is a LOT more expensive than it is in the US (£200 for a core i7 920 in the uk = ~$320 US for example).

yeah msi is doing it for msi they have had WAYYYYYYYY MORE MISSES than hits in the last 4 or so years. the new GDs have been doing great on AMD side and will open the door for them there but on Intel side the last X boards havent been anything to talk about, and for the good boards they do have nothing groundbreaking or atleast worth talking about over GIG ASUS, or other. Im sure they will get alot of rep on this.

might get one of these just to sell it on later. Or to keep and pick up the rest later...

Awesome to UK customers though.

Having played with a couple of systems based on MSI P55 boards they do finally have a BIOS which works like an ASUS for overclocking, in some areas (specifically OC Profiles) it is better than ASUS ROG boards. I'm really impressed by this board compared to the equivalent ASUS. MSI have finally got an Intel chipset right, maybe because there is less chipset to get wrong they have had more time to focus on features and stability.

Wait what? Those screenshots don't actually show anything. An OC retry count? Heck why would you need that? System fails to reboot, fails to reboot, fails to reboot, and finally resets to default. No thanks. Not sure about the multiple profiles for Overclocking, only need 2, one for overclock and another for underclock, unless your swapping hardware.

Nether the less thanks for posting the screenies.

He he he, gotta break the cycle.
About MSI BIOS, just 2 words, "spot on." The initial BIOSes for my board were a bit iffy, but MSI has been really putting effort into improving them (rolling out tonnes of new versions) and are adopting a lot of ideas posed to them by experienced OCers making them very stable, fully featured & good at unlocking cores for us on the AMD side.
