The hunt is over now what do you think which cooler here are the choices

1.The Baram very good cooler, but a newcomer http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/thbauncpucos.html
2. The TRUE Black C revision with two fan enclosures (has new mount and fins are oriented differently) Has diamond cut through center of cooler) http://www.jab-tech.com/Thermalright...C-pr-4528.html
3.The Hammer Has a giant surface area http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233032
4.The Meg http://www.frozencpu.com/products/88...ml?id=p2RdVw7z great cooler but hate how it looks (stupid I know) I want a shadow but cannot find one.
5. The wolf (titan fenrir) frosty techs best and very good but loud) http://www.frozencpu.com/products/92...TC-NK85TZ.html
6. V10 good cooler , larger than hell and costs a arm and a leg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103056
7. IFX-14 fire extinguisher, larger than hell http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...html?tl=g40c14
8. Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme Aka the Shredder looks mean and sharp http://www.frozencpu.com/products/94...html?tl=g40c14

My Noctua is getting overwhelmed because I broke my vented case side and had to purchase a solid replacement. Now my noise level has gone down and I added a second 120mm intake fan but my temps are up near 87c under 100 percent load, after about 45 minutes, on the highest temp core. My voltage is set to 1.25v at 4.0ghz. I'm trying to lower my in case temps. I'm leaning toward the Hammer due to it's shear size , but I'm not sure because a TRUE with dual fans or a Baram might be good as well. Pick a cooler and tell me why you like it and why you think I should get it. It needs to perform better than my Noctua in this environment. ( I realize that a tall order since it performs on par with allot of these coolers)

Here is an example of my closed case test under 100 percent load art work is free courtesy of my 10 year old. Oh this is a stable clock even with this heat.

I think you really need to look at a couple of real world tests with different TIM's. They all look slick but I've seen hs I thought would kick ass and they were just ok - good, but not anything to cream your jeans over.

I like the Xigmatek hs's just because it's more efficient. But you just can't say. I think (not sure) that even mounting geometry can make a difference (vertical vs horizontal).

How much of a difference is there on your cores. If it's more than 2 or 3 degrees will all under load, you might have some TIM or mounting issues. Some TIM's like ceramique have to go through several cycles before they set up and reach max efficiency.

Check to see that the one you pick comes with a bracket. That's the one thing I don't like about Xigmatek - they make you buy the bracket - otherwise you're stuck with push pins.

Cores are only about 3-4 degrees apart at max load. Which is normal. I'm leaning towards the Hammer because of the size of the heatsink 800 grams , but the TRUE is giant 790 grams as well and I'm thinking in a enclosed setting that would help dissipate the heat and would not build up as quickly. I like the MEG too but don't like that it doesn't come with two fan mounts and I think it's ugly. Also I have read the Hammer has base quality issues and is hard to install. I have read reviews out the ass but they are all used on open air testing stations and open air and enclosed result can be vastly different.

The truth is these chips can handle 87c and under normal use I never see over 55c, however I don't like those temps at all.

I really don't see the need to get another air cooler. None of those coolers are going to give you much over what you are currently using. If you want to keep an i7 cool to your liking, you're going to need water cooling.

no water for me no thx too much pain in the ass. and my case already weights 50 pounds. I think these D0 run hotter than the C0 at the same voltage but the D0's will run at lower voltage.

Then your looking at a 2-5c difference with any of those air coolers at best.

The problem with those reviews is they are almost all open air and I'm wondering what the heat build up difference would be between mu current CPU cooler and say a MEG TRUE or Hammer inside a case.

Noctua NH-U12P 600 grams
TRUE 790 grams
Hammer 800 grams
and my thinking is more mass the less heat that will build due to surface area

Maybe you should consider a hybrid tec cooler like

V10
or
Chilltec

Actually many of the reviews are done in enclosed enviroments with a baseline ambient temp. The reviews at TweakTown are done in a box with a reverse TEC.

might have to look at them again surface area isn't everything it's what in the heat pipes that makes the difference as well. Thats why the current Cpu cooler are all so close. They have good coolant

If I were starting from scratch, I would go with the heaviest, and use a dual fan setup with the best fan you can get. Either way, you're already in the upper end of air coolers, getting another air cooler really isn't going to make much of a difference.

Already have a 78 cf 120 mm Antec TRI cool and a Noctua fan 120 mm, both are quiet as hell and I like the Antec one better believe it or not. My case has a total of 2 120 mm intake fans, 2 120 mm fans on the heatsink, 120mm 78cf exhaust fan, 2 92 mm case fans both at the top of the case and a 140mm 33cf PSU fan. I cannot see adding any more fans. If I would get a 5c drop on my cores accross the board that would be giant. My highest core would be 82c under max load. I might try the hammer it's got a giant surface area but does it have a shitty base design? I have read it does.

Sorry to keep pushing this, but a hybrid tec should give you a significant drop and won't be as sensitive to ambients and air flow. They are pretty expensive, but if you're even thinking about a TRUE, it's not a whole lot more money.

Well I was thinking about it and was looking at a V10 but a good friend who I trust greatly warned me way from them.

I heard mixed reviews about various tec's too but I don't think you have a lot of options with those temps. You can only squeeze so much out of air coolers. As you know, you can go with some high volume fans (Ultra Kaze I think is 130cfm) but they aren't exactly silent.

There are also self contained w/c units that don't involve tubing, rads etc. but I don't know if they are a great deal better than high end air.

the V10 in closed testing was 2*c better than my best air cooler, and at way more than twice the price...well not worth it.

Yes the new one has a diamond like cut through the center of it's fins. the more I read the Baram, MEG and TRUE seem to handle max voltage the best. A Baram is the best money wise.

its settled, im getting the TRUE black rev c cause

'The Thermalright True Black 120 Rev.C CPU heatsink is an upgrade on the highly awarded Ultra-120 eXtreme. Featuring six heatpipes, a large fin area and excellent heat dissipation. Plus the TRUE Black 120 Rev.C is now compatible with Intel's Socket 775, 1366 and AMD's Socket AM2, AM3 right out of the box - no accessories or adapters needed. Strap on any 120mm fan and watch those high CPU temperatures go way down. With low fan RPM, it’s able to beat out any other brand of 120 mm HSF running at the same fan speed. Additionally, the revision C includes new mounting hardware to install the TRUE on AM2/AM2+/AM3 sockets in any direction. Now you can direct the airflow towards the rear case fan.''

i hope nick89 sees this and does not buy another thors hammer after his rma

Besides the cut in the fins this revision. They changed the fin orientation slightly and the mounting bracket during the last B formulation..
