with it's latest patch Battleforge became(meaning it's already available) the first DX11 game also pripyat http://forums.techpowerup.com/showth...70#post1576670 and Dirt 2 will be launched by December and Alien v Predator is scheduled for early '10. Also the important thing is it's DX9/10/10.1 which even with immature driver is higher than GTX285 which is hotter and 100$ more

Well you could just get a 4870 1GB or a GTX260 216shader since the prices have gone down and save yourself a bunch of money, and still have much better performance.

With the money saved you could pocket it, or buy a nice new LCD(so next upgrade you will not need S-video).

Right now all 5850 are reference cards (might even be BBA), and they all have voltage control jst like the Asus.
Just buy what ever brand that has the best deal.

Its overkill for now yes, but the 5850 will hold up for a coupe of years.

wait... the GT300 comes out... the price war begins
its always the same... my radeon HD4890 came out and was £260.... i bought it... a few weeks later £180... now £140
I couldve had 2 for that price and crossfired if i waited

nah... cant take that long...a month tops and the prices will drop nicely .... even if you bought now you'd wait a week or so for the shop to deliver due to low stock... so adding 3 more weeks makes a month... not that long really

besides they'll most likely bring out a 5890 soon to deal with the GT300 when that launches and that will hit the shelves at the same price as this and kick a lot more arse
when that happens the prices on the 5870 / 5850 will be a lot less... (if the 4870 / 4890 launch is anything to go by)

I dunno if you have money to throw around then go for it now... you wont be sorry, but if you can hold on for a few weeks you'll save a lot and can afford much better... whatever is cleverer in your opinion and depends on how badly your current gfx card is playing games

Whatever they come out with should surly kickass. The waiting is going to be worth it.
