So where is it and how does one use it? Sounds like something I would want to try.

I believe drag-and-drop transcoding is actually a feature of Windows 7 which can be built into applications to enable exactly the functionality it implies. A quick Google search brings up a few results, but no actual examples of which apps do/will use it as far as I can tell. Most of them mention "portable players" which I guess means that ATi Stream will assist in transcoding videos in WMP when transferred to your Zune. At least that's the message I'm getting...

Anyone know what the improvements are for the 4870X2 on this driver release?

I have Vista 32bit, not 7. Sorry, the approach with "reinstall the drivers" is not a solution. Consider I am an average user, with no idea about PC's. It should work just fine, as the older versions did.

actually, reinstalling the drivers is the solution.

CCC crashing = problem
reinstall drivers = solution

My point was: why on earth do I have to reinstall? Can't they just release a proper driver package, like the older ones? I am putting myself in the shoes of a normal user. How happy do you think he will be?

That was the idea, not how to solve it... I have some experience with this stuff...

they release it, you install it.

you then have your PC setup in such a way it installs a second driver over the top (you, yourself, set windows to automatically install updates, or chose manually to install the ATI driver)

its not ATI's fault if you installed two drivers for the one device.

Again, you are missing the point here. Tell that to a simple, normal, average user. He will look at you like a snail in a wall-plug... Is it rocket science that the new driver, before installs, should uninstall the old one?

it did.

then you, or windows update at your behest installed an old one over the top.

if someone rents a car and wraps it around a tree, you dont blame the car - you blame the person who used it wrong.

In this case, it takes you mere seconds and a reboot of the machine to fix it - doesnt change the cause of the event at all.

Well apparently you did something wrong because you are having a problem when most are not. Also I would lose the attitude. I'm the infraction record holder here.

Sorry? It is not the first time I am using a computer. Not the first time I am installing Catalyst. Not on this set-up. If most don't have a problem, the driver is flawless? Don't think so. I don't want to write here my experience in this field, I just wanted to point that an average user could have the same problem and the solution above is not for an average user. Thank you for your answers.

All I'm saying is if you are having a problem while most are not its ether two things.

A: You made a mistake.
B: Something is wrong with your rig.

Your problem is not common therefore it must be unique to you. How did you reinstall your drivers?

I see your point VIPER - the average user doesn't even know what Anti-Virus software they're running or what Internet Explorer is, they just expect it all to work.

However, things go wrong (mainly due to user intervention (or lack of)) and things obviously need to be put right. In this case, bite the bullet.

List how you install (& remove) your drivers and we'll help you amend the issue.

For me, this driver set is awesome!
